"Iron Council" by China Miéville.
Slowly reading through Conrad Totman's "A History of Japan" that I bought on a whim.

The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan.

Now I'm rereading Catcher In The Rye. Last time I read this was when I was a HS freshman and the fucking teacher just skipped around to her favorite parts and told us that IT WAS DEEP. Honestly, I can't see the significance in this book. So far I'm getting that some miserable rich kid who is a possible pedophile fucking around in New York before his parents find out he got kicked out of school. I seem to remember this kid ending up in the nuthouse but I can't imagine why when his only problem is that he's an angsty kid with an inferiority complex.

That would probably explain why so many annoying angsty teenagers like this book so much.

Nokosage for rant...it was on my mind for awhile.

Lolita, I think.
But I can't finish it. I read some of the second part, but it's... disturbing.
Don't minsunderstand, I'm quite fond of little girls, if you know what I mean, but the depravation of the protagonist is unbearable. He's like me, if I had the guts. Or the opportunity.
I didn't believe the critics at first, but it IS disturbing.
