Does anyone here use a futon?

What's it like?

>> No.7317611

Like a bag of sand.

>> No.7317664

Almost as soft as rolling down the mountain.

>> No.7317687

It was most probably a shitty one, but it was between sleeping on the floor and on a very hard mattress. My back didn't mind at the very least.

I slept on one for about 9 years when living with my parents as a child.
Once the mattress part wears down you are basically sleeping on the metal bars.
It was not comfortable.

>> No.7317707

Slept on one for a while when I was a very poor college student. They suck, don't hold a candle to even a shitty mattress. No matter how soft they are it still feels like you're on the floor rather than a bed.

>> No.7317724

they are fucking terrible

>> No.7317743

They're meant to be placed on tatami aren't they?
Even so, they're still just large flat pillows.

>> No.7317744

Better than my rock hard bed or the floors I've always slept on.

>> No.7319147

My friend who just moved back to Japan says that sleeping on a futon that is on tatami mats is the most comfortable way to sleep he's ever experienced. Much better than a box spring/mattress combo in his opinion.

It's good for your back.

It's like a bed but for poor people that can't by the entire bed.

>> No.7319179

there are ones that are over $500 though.

>> No.7319295

Don't most Japanese people use futons simply because commoners couldn't afford real beds in the past?

I also thought kotatsu were invented because they couldn't afford heating the entire room, so they only heated that small space. Am I mistaken?

I don't know but I wish pig Americans would pick up the Japanese model of energy efficiency.

>> No.7319408

I just started using one and I like it so far. It takes some getting used to, and I suggest using some kind of mattress topper under the sheets to soften things up if you don't have a frame. If you have hard pillows it sucks, so get some nice fluffy ones. If you have a little NEET room it's nice because it can go in the closet when you aren't sleeping on it.

Frames suck. Fuck frames.

Make sure you get a relatively thick one. Nothing under 5 inches. AND BEAT THE DUST AND SHIT OUT OF IT REGULARLY. This stops it from getting worn out and thinned.

>> No.7319440

>>7319295
I thought it was because they live in tiny rooms and having a bed would take up too much space

>> No.7319468

>>7319295
nope you're right. also japs can't afford space since they're packed so tightly together so they don't have beds unless they have enough money for a big house.

basically poor japs use futon and rich/well to do use western beds.

I have a "futon" that doubles as the cushion to a couch. So for me, it'd be like sleeping on the couch.

Your friend is in denial. I've slept on a futon over a tatami mat and it's about on par with a shitty mattress (still slightly worse). There's a reason rich japs buy western style homes with mattresses and bed frames. The fancy toilets and bathtubs they usually have are a certainly a step up though.

>> No.7319851

i know a friend of mine that purchased it and he felt okay with that for the first month, after that he kept feeling back pain and felt reeeally uncomfortable with it, so he decided to just dump it.

I really have no idea how the japs can sleep on those things for years

Probably by not being fatass whales.

>> No.7320076

Fat people are the ones who can sleep on anything and still be comfortable. We bony people need the best mattresses and chairs.

>> No.7320141

Person with bad back here....

Japanese style futons on the floor are fucking awesome. Nothing kills my back more than a squishy uneven mattress.

>> No.7320301

>>7320076
This is untrue, I am as fat as HELL and my back is still fucked up. I can't sleep on a shitty mattress and expect to function the next day.
