I'm just starting to collect figures and the first figure I want is a Rei figure. I can't spend too much at the moment because I'm saving up for a few other things.
Here's my questions
>What was your first figure?
>How much did you pay?
>How much on average to you spend on one figure?
>Any tips for a beginning collector?

Also, opinions on the figure I'm thinking of getting. She's a cheaper Revoltech, but I love Rei with her bandages.

The nicest Rei's I have are the 1/6th Kotobukiya and the one by Creators Labo.

Do you want something poseable or a nice piece for the shelf? Do you want something that is stylized or more realistic?

OP, preorder figma Rei. I have the Fraulein bandage ver and she's okay, but figmas are statue-tier quality with amazing articulation.

My first figure was a Suigintou That i picked up at a comic book shop for like $20 (bootleg obviously but i didn't know that at the time).
A year or two later i saw this Suiseiseki ($80 or so) and just had to have it. It was my first preorder and really the beginning of the end.
It's been almost 4 years and i have over 100 figures. To be honest i wonder what will happen in the future I mean I've liked anime since sailor moon in grade 3 and loved it since Gits a few years later so i will probably always watch anime but will i still collect figures in 10 years? or will this just end up being $50,000 down the drain (I've spent over 20k already)

Anyway I'd advise not to get into this hobby.

Ive been collecting figures for about 4-5 years and Ive only got 15 figures. I stopped for about 2 years but then wanted to get a little bit more. You have to pace your self and know when to spend and not spend money.
Its not a money pit if you have self control and a passion for the hobby.

>> No.7310727

>>7310676

This is salient advice if you can stick to it.

My problem is the quality and beauty of figures has steadily increased over the past several years that I have been collecting. I also have not become disenfranchised with anime and eroge so there's never a shortage of stuff to want anymore. Every season I'm introduced to several beautiful women that I want in my collection.

I've slowed down considerably, though. The looming preorder bill at the end of the month started to take all the joy out of collecting.

Now I am very choosy. The figure has to meet certain criteria in order for me to purchase it.

If (1) the character has SIGNIFICANTLY endeared herself to me, and by this I don't mean just your standard moe-moe-kyun flavor-of-the-month fare, (2) is a quality figure by a reputable company, and (3) fits into my budget - then I go for it.

Following these guidelines I know find myself with money for other shit besides figures. I can actually purchase games, eroge and doujin goods now. Holy shit, I'm hungry. I have money to buy food. It's much better.

>> No.7310742

>>7310676
I never said it was a money pit and i only regret one purchase (The cast off horo from a few years ago, can't remember who made her).

The over figure count was just a guess. After counting them i have 52 figures, 12 GKs, 2 nendoroids, 3 figma's, 1 azone, 1 dollfie, and ~30 gachapon and magazine freebies. The money was largely spent on a small proportion such as the dollfie (~$2500) and a handful of limited edition/contest giveaway figures ($3-500 each for the most part)

I'm not really blowing my money or trying to collect them all its just there always seems to be 1 or 2 a month that i want.

Like many others have said, try not to buy on impulse. I usually sit on it for a week or so after the announcement or whatever, and if I still want it, I get it. That's a pretty terrible analogy, getting a figure is much less of a commitment than a tattoo. And even if they were the same, I'm not suggesting to buy figures if you don't like the design.

Would help if I linked the goddamn file now, wouldn't it?

That is strange. Really fucking strange. I can see people leaving their figures in their original boxes, but what possible rationale could you have for leaving them in the shipping boxes?

Shit makes no sense to me.

The goddamn flash also makes the figures look cheap and glossy, that is unforgivable.

I believe that everybody needs to calm down and think. The only one with any actual business sense is Eirin.

They're hucksters. You won't unbox your figures if you want to resell them.

$150, /jp/.

I've been wanting one for so fucking long now and I have the money, but I'm getting cold feet. Someone slap some sense in to me. I've been looking for months and haven't seen one priced this low yet... But still, it's $150 for a fucking nendo.

What should I do?

If you buy it at that price, you support the people asking for astronomicly high prices for figures.

There is no fucking way, you couldn't do/get something better with 150 dollar.

I... suppose you're right. I wish I'd had the wherewithal to buy it when it was first released.
