>Oh, I found a tweet by Crypton'S CEO said... "Hatsune Miku debut in the US will be quite sensational and it will be in this week!! #vocaloid #miku" !! what does it mean?? You will see soon!!!

So what do we think they are planning?

Also, would anyone actually go to a Miku concert if it was in the original 39's concert with the hologram? I was thinking about it and I think all the weeabos would kill the fun. How could I enjoy my self while standing in the proximity of a fat woman desecrating my Goddess by impersonating her?

>> No.7309331 [DELETED]

I can't say I would go to a concert. Knowing that I am an example of a Miku fan makes me scared, I wouldn't want to risk being surrounded by people similar to myself or worse.

And yes, I am referring to odor/weight/general cleanliness. The idea of the likelihood of being stuck near someone who might actually masturbate in public is also off-putting(that is a level above me but I imagine it exists).

>>7309308
At this point, if they stopped now we would have a Miku for as long as people kept her alive.

You sure make judgments quickly. When do you get out of high school?

With that behavior, I wonder how many groups you give a bad name just by communicating. I'm fine with offing myself, but perhaps you should consider offing yourself as well? I never said I was fat(rather that I am worried about the people who are heavier), and I don't have anything in particular against fat people but I don't relish the idea of being around them in hot, tight places like a concert pit.

I mostly keep to myself, respect other people's space, and clean myself well when I go out, so I'm gravely sorry if actually having prudence due to my fairly ugly form has given people a bad name, even supposing that I am fat.

Good thing we have upstanding citizens such as yourself with excellent reading comprehension and critical thinking skills to play human quality police, though.

I don't even like Miku's vocals for the most part. She's the uncanny valley of singing.

It's better when the song doesn't try to pretend she sounds like a real person. And it's kind of funny to try to make her sing in robot engrish.

But other than that, no. As a serious vocal, no. We need to do better than Miku before we can really start replacing the need for human vocalists. Not much better, but at least still noticeably so.

The irony is that Kanye likes to use synthesizers, which is actually an area that Miku does really well, I think. You can easily replace synthesized and autotuned voices with vocaloids of about Miku's quality and do alright with it.

But Miku can't convincingly do something like a piano solo or a raunchy rock vocal. Anything that needs to sound convincingly, humanly real or just needs to be done with some 'tude can't be done by Miku.

I also want to see the quality of the holograms fro the concerts go up, too, because they also sit in a weird area that I don't understand how people don't feel ridiculously nerdy being in the audience of. Anime artstyles don't really do well when translates directly to 3D like that, and especially when the animation of those 2D-to-3D models tries too hard to be obedient to physics.

Imagine Miku animated by Pixar for one of her concerts. Shit would be baller.

Also, on the note of "using Miku in America," I think the usage depends on the person. I don't think Kanye West would leave Miku entirely out of the question, but I'd doubt he'd use it. You're obviously new here.

Protip: "Taking it easy" is just a bullshit toohoo meme that was never practiced by the majority of /jp/ users, because it's the very antithesis of what makes the board good - elitism. The reason why we have maintained our quality in the face of attacks from shitholes like /a/, /b/, and /v/ is due to the fact that we do not tolerate emoticons, retarded and illiterate posts, shitty Japanese cartoons, or mainstream games beloved of normalfags.

If the toohooshitters' so-called "philosophy" had really caught on, this board would have rapidly become a dying shadow of its former self.

I think more than that, most of us are just scared of Comic-book Miku's image taking over.

Primarily because that or worse is practically guaranteed to happen.

I suppose Japan will remain a bastion of original(KEI-like) Miku, though, unless for some reason Miku catches on here more than people think she will, then Japan mainstream catches on in return and eventually the original character is pushed into relative obscurity.

That sequence of events seems virtually impossible, thankfully. I like Miku's image as she is, and if the image being used on the Corolla site is a view of what's to come, then I'd prefer it not change.

I want to talk about not us being hipsters for a minute, if that's alright.

Between all the vocaloid originals and fanmade stuff, how do you separate the wheat from the chaff of vocaloid songs? For a while I only really liked the occasional song like Toeto or Hello Planet. Then I picked up on ファインダー and then all the re:package and re:mikus stuff, which was pretty much a fucking goldmine as far as I'm concerned. It's really too bad all that isn't much what I've heard out of the concerts.

It just takes a lot of exploring, y'know? "Toeto" and "Hello Planet" are obviously extremely mainstream, since you stumbled upon these fast, but if you just keep hitting "related videos" with different songs in the titles you'll eventually find stuff you like. Then find that producer's name, check out their works, and then check out other "related videos" from the author. It takes a lot of exploring, but you'll find the right artists for your tastes eventually.

yes, this entire thread is filled with hipster bullshit. "It sucks if it's popular." "I knew about this before you did." and some amount of "Americans ruin [quantitative adjective] things that Japan makes."

It's hipster bullshit. But what's wrong with that? I can guarantee that we've all experienced some form of appreciation for a piece of work (art, video game, song, movie, etc.) and felt like it was "ruined" in some way due to some popularity it gained with a particular audience, or even an individual. That's going to happen all the fucking time with things like Miku. Things get popular, deal with it.

But there's still something different about how a person experiences something like listening to music sung by Miku who's been a fan of hers for several years as opposed to someone who just got introduced to her via some shitty Toyota commercial. There's nothing wrong with that person (albeit a shitty taste in music) becoming a fan, because the way you experience something is still different than they way everyone else does.

But on a quality level, man, what kind of debut are you supposed to be giving Miku with the lowest of Toyota's marketing department and a piece of crap Corolla? Everything about that commercial is just badly made, from the writing to the piss poor CG that doesn't match the concert footage to the awful song editing.

I'll be honest though, although I appreciated the design and intent behind Miku, I hadn't really been arsed to check out much of the musical output associated with her before. Luka absolutely kills her on a performance level, but she just isn't as charismatic of a character.

A western man is supposed to like cars and get sexy bitches to emphasise his badassery, not have intellectual or artistic hobbies and marry a beautiful, devoted bride. Rather than man-hating women being sexy, the men have to hate women and only use them for sex in order not to be considered pussies, and these used sluts end up hating men in return. It's pitiful.

You also have to consider that Japanese men are into it because they are suppressed by their society psychologically.

Not only is it aging, but they don't have the mindset of the macho-man as strong as we do. Ending up as a slaving salaryman is more or less what is expected, and so the ideal is not to end up like that. Unlike here, where what is expected is exactly what you said.

That and they have to deal with being considered sexually inferior by the opposite sex of their own race on top of being in an aging(aged?) society. They know their women prefer Western men.

So, Western men don't like it because we have a psuedoreligious belief in our society that enjoying something that isn't even real/using imagination can be bad for you or shows weakness, and many Japanese men are driven to it because they're more or less stressed and easily put down in the dumps by their social situation.

Although I can guarantee you there is a fair share of "What? You like that cute shit? Are you some kind of weak faggot?" in Japanese society too, so it all comes down to Western men actually caring and being self-conscious even when no one is watching.

Also, I think many of Vocaloid/Miku's fans are either already working office jobs(i.e. are salarymen) or didn't make it into a good university, meaning their life is more or less over in terms of ever doing or being anything important unless they have a severe stroke of luck. There's no need to keep up pretenses after that, especially when you're alone.

And that's all ignoring things you secretly enjoy and bending over to let the manliness idea rape you in the ass is, a pretense used for competing on the social ladder. I'm assuming most people don't end up realizing this for whatever reason and obey the social code until they die, sadly.

Well, it all depends on various factors. Some places don't care, I suspect some places in Europe really don't give a fuck. I was speaking in reference to America, but other than culture, I'd say the most important issue is probably the population of your area and also how tough the competition for women is.

No one thing is going to make or break your social standing, but that all depends on who you choose to interact with as well. Obviously nerdier circles won't care as much. But normally, liking cute things that society considers "girly" can be used against you if somebody finds out about it.

It's not so big of an obstacle that you couldn't overcome it with good looks, a good personality, or money, but it's definitely considered negative outside of otaku-related circles.

Announce to your college study group that you love Hatsune Miku because she is cute and introduce them to her music. I can guarantee you 75-90% of them will think you are either a weirdo, a pedophile, or a psycho, and the important thing here is that they may not even tell you. By contrast, tell them you're a big fan of monster-truck stunts and it will be an odd interest.

Well said.

One thing is also that cuteness is actually valued in Japanese culture overall: in the west, if someone calls a woman or girl "cute", you get this kind of a vibe that she can't be very attractive after all, because if she were, she'd be described by terms like "hot" or "sexy". Especially from a woman to another, it can actually be a backhanded compliment to call someone cute - it's sort of saying "you don't look bad, but men won't have interest in someone that bland". A man calling something cute or paying much attention to cute things is considered effeminate or gay.

In Japan, the ideal for a girl is actually to be cute and "cute" is a real compliment. Even many idols emphasise innocence and cuteness, which shows just how important it is. Followingly, men taking interest in cute things, especially cute girls, is acceptable and even encouraged to a degree as long as they don't fill their room with pink fluff and kitten plushies or something.

One thing might be that the west requires men to prove their manhood, sort of, while in most other parts of the world if you're a man, you don't need to prove anyone anything as long as you're a honorable person. Western men spend much of their lives trying to show everyone that they are a man and not something else (effeminate or gay), and as a result they have to stray from all the things that are considered acceptable or encouraged for women (things like taking interest in cuteness, predominantly female hobbies and so on) all their life. A huge amount of time and energy is spent simply on proving one's manhood, something that should be a given.

It depends on the particular people in your study group. There are a lot of college students who watch, say, anime, and a lot of that tends to run cute these days.

Well, when I was attending college all the top graduates, including my self, were all anime fans. So your point just feel short. But I agree that its possible that location would have to be a factor. I live int he mid west and out here, we just dont give a shit. Perhaps in New York or something where men have to work hard to look like men. I mean, in the mid west every day you have the opportunity to display your manlyness, catching a Cab or walking to the subway does not leave you many chances.

That's actually for granted(we are part of that category, aren't we?), but we are talking about society as a whole here, and thus the majority. It doesn't exist tangibly or universally, but I do believe there is something we can identify as an "expected average reaction," which is what I was trying to describe.

>>7312926
Well, I don't know about not valuing cuteness overall. Appreciating it outside of real women is definitely a negative value for a male, but cuteness as a personal virtue is reasonably popular among females. For example, you can find lots of complaints from larger women that there is simply not cute clothing in their size, etc. I'd agree it's not the norm.

Cute can be an insult like you described, though, that's true. But that's usually only the case if it's a very petit woman who is self-conscious about not being developed. It'd definitely be weird to say in bed overall. I can't say anything about how Japanese females perceive it.

of course the difference is feminism. in japan the yamato nadeshiko still has some following. in america the "liberated" woman is the ideal. even if people don't actually like it the image of a masculine "empowered" woman is perpetuated by the media with opposition branded as "misogynists."

I guess I can't argue with that, but I think "top college graduates" represents an exceptional group in and of itself and does not represent the reaction you might get from students picked from a random sample in an early-mid level college course.

I find it difficult to believe that the average person in your college is an anime fan(not that the particular group you're talking about was), and if your top college study group turned out to be a bit of an anime clique, then that pretty much puts it as an exception automatically.

Depends. Liking one or two cute things can be accepted for an overall manly and confident man, but if you're really into cute things like one of my male friends, who adores cute animals like kittens and hamsters and everything small and/or pink, you won't be taken seriously as a heterosexual man. He is short and has feminine facial features while also lacking muscles, so he really has to live in the closet about his interest in these things, apart from a few friends like me who understand his hobby.

>>7312935
I think My Little Pony, Disney and possibly Pokémon are the cute things in vogue right now, but not for their cuteness. It's more of a reaction against the society's expectations of early independence. Being nostalgic/obsessive about these childhood hobbies makes the person look laid-back and like they have a bit of their childhood innocence left. People think they're forgiving, open and nice people who won't judge them for their own silly/childish hobbies, and that's what makes those things popular among young adults.

>cuteness as a personal virtue is reasonably popular among females. For example, you can find lots of complaints from larger women that there is simply not cute clothing in their size
It might be a small and vocal group, though. The sad thing is the demand for cute clothes for adults seems relatively low. Whenever I see a cute dress in some brochure, it's always for kids. Like you said, this problem is especially bad for larger women. Nearly all the cute bra models have only small to average sizes, for example: it's as if the society thinks a large-breasted woman can't be cute.

>>7312950
Let's not have this discussion, it's really a lot more complicated than that. The whole reason why a woman has to be masculine in order to be empowered is because western socities don't value feminine things and are misogynist that way. Girly/womanly things are inferior, so if a woman wants to prove her worth, she has to try to be a man. The "liberated" women who strive to be as masculine as they can are often actually misogynists in disguise rather than supporters of equality, as they think that womanhood is lesser and trying to be manly in order to be better than other, feminine women. An actually equal society would, in fact, let women be feminine and value them as such.

Well, this is too nebulous to be a real discussion. I wouldn't put much weight on it if I were you. There's no way I could possibly prove this empirically over the internet. I don't see what I could use as evidence in any case, all I have is personal experience.

I'll say is that there's a difference between "not being insulted or put down" and "not being taken seriously." It's a complicated matter, but I'd say unless you have some other very redeeming quality about you your chances of success with a female in modern society(I haven't been strictly talking about general social success here) will go down if you admit to being a fan of cute things, especially if she has been exposed to the content(MMD videos being an example). She may even be really interested and want to talk about it, but you'd never know it until you tried asking her out and she told you she just wants to be friends or assumed you were gay.

So, it's not about being directly ostracized or even just insulted, it's about the way people's perception of you changes once they learn you like things normally considered only acceptable for women(read: indulging in cute things, possibly as a hobby). Perhaps you don't perceive it, perhaps it's different wherever you live, perhaps you've gotten lucky socially, or perhaps I'm just wrong.

In all reality I don't really think it's much different between our societies on this point. I've heard Japanese people talk about getting glares from females if they talk about MMD in public and such.

So in the end, liberals promote the sexualization of minors and then refuse to take the responsibility for the consequences.

Just as well as the deconstruction of the female, leading to plummeting birth-rates, dysfunctional childhoods, mass immigration and disintegration of society.

Cool story, bro.

Non-lesbian females detest actual female homosexuality. It's just kisses and fondling in order to please the boys that is allowed, and maybe going on a date with a lesbian once to try things out. Actual lesbian sex rarely happens. Women like gay men, but gay women are offensive since they aren't devoting their lives to competing with other women for the attention of macho men and since they might take kisses and fondling between women seriously, which is yucky - it's only acceptable when you do it for show in front of a male crowd. Clingy and posessive, sure, but everyone has flaws and /jp/ is that way because of their limited social experience. They'd probably learn to control that aspect of their personality.

I've seen threads about that, and I think it fits the overall picture well. I think one thing /jp/ anons would really want is to be sexually desired, thus the popularity of "I wish to be the little girl" and the occassional femdom fetishists. A girl who would take control in bed would thus be good and help /jp/ with their insecurities and possible fear of sexual intimacy. Another thing the people here afraid of is that the girl wouldn't accept their /jp/ hobbies, and someone with a similar hobbies, a "bro" of a sort, would help with that aspect.

Especially for the more practical among us who would just like someone to hang out with and who would love them for who they are, this type would be ideal.

i'd say that's just a difference of being social and antisocial. we have users here who spend tremendous amounts of time in front of their computer collecting parts, stages, and information to create their virtual wives and then enacting their every fantasy, and find them more appealing than actually interacting with anyone. they'll purposely avoid interacting with friends and maybe even family so they have more time to interact with said idea-girls. i don't even have to mention the extremity of the fetishes being enacted or their social situation and it's already stranger than i would have imagined five years ago.

in any case, what i'm saying here is that being social about a fetish isn't necessarily weirder than being strongly antisocial about it(although it is normal to keep your fetishes to yourself, some of us go well beyond that).

no, i was posting as a reaction to your statement that they're further out there than us, that's all. while interesting to me, this is kind of a foolish discussion so i'll just stop here. i'll admit live-action social fetishism is pretty strange(but only the social aspect of it), but so are some of the things i've described, just in an opposite direction from the norm as /tg/ has taken(assuming the information discussed here is correct).
