Finished Sisters.
Well some scenes were really well animated, others not so much, and it had a story that wasn't actually that bad but it really needed more time to develop.

With that I finished all the big releases of April, not a bad month though I expected better

Kamidori: 9/10
+Refined version of Himegari with a gameplay that is even more addictive
-Scenario, characters and writing are weak

Eustia: 8/10
+Amazing mood and setting, easy to read and digest
-Scenario and writing get weaker and weaker with time, last chapter is a bad trainwreck

Sister: 8/10
+Great animation at times, hot ero, strange but interesting story
-Not enough time to develop the story, lot of repetition

Marguerite sphere: 7/10
+Good moe and art, likable character
-Feel like a lesser Clover Point in a lot of ways

Daiteikoku: 7/10
+Good humor, kinda addictive though not as much as previous Dai games
-Lots of big flaws in the gameplay, pacing is pretty bad too

Vanitas no Hitsuji: 6/10
+Good setting, first half is pretty enjoyable to read
-Routes are very clearly unfinished, reading this game feel very unfulfilling.

White: 6/10
+Great protag, Canaan and Marika's routes aren't bad
-Sister's route would make anyone rage, Brigitte's route is really weak, the POV change was really unnecessary, too much pissing, writing is bad

I like how the Inganock/Sharnoth/Valusia Hotch Potch append scenarios contain more than one cross-reference with the other games, even Sona-nyl.
It really links the universe together and makes them feel less "isolated", even though well they're pretty short and over quickly.

The narration is in third person so you aren't really supposed to identify as the girl main character getting a guy. Besides Vivian is all kinds of awesome so it's really fun to read, and the male characters aren't your usual effeminate guys you see in most otome games, I liked most of them even though I'm a guy.

Sisters was terrible. The entire game felt like a prologue full of plot-elements that are unnecessarily ambiguous. The game is super short, choices don't matter because there is only one route anyway, the mother and Haruka get one (!) sex scene each...jesus how can a game feel this rushed after like, 5 years of development time.

Not sure how I'm going to rank it against Sharin, I'm thinking worse, but in the end, I found I cared about the characters a lot more despite almost all of them being shittier than Sharin. How do you balance two titles where one is technically better, but the other you enjoyed more?

Also, no way in hell is that ending bitter sweet. It's a ridiculously happy one. It's so happy and ending I'm having trouble processing it.

While that's a shame, I don't see how that's tragic enough to call it "bitter". The friends are alive, their lives and futures protected by Kyousuke, and Kyousuke finally finds some happiness paid with his own blood after living a cursed life filled with loss beyond his control.

Compared to Alternative's ending, G-Senjou's true end is pure sunshine. I think people might be calling it bitter-sweet when they mean "moving", because it was really moving.

I think people call it bittersweet because Kyousuke was separated from Haru for what, like 7 years or something? (been awhile since I read it) Even if they got back together in the end being apart for that long is tragic, especially since that whole time Kyousuke didn't think he'd ever see her again. A lot of the time that they should have had together was stolen from them and I would imagine their early adult lives were really shitty and lonely. The game might not describe those years but I at least was able to imagine all the suffering they went through during that time, and it keeps me from seeing the ending as a completely happy one.

Also just about anything is sunshine compared to Alternative.

Yeah dude, there was nothing really "sad" about it. In my opinion, one of Alt's most important messages are about the meaning of one's life. The viewer is constantly faced with people fighting a seemingly hopeless battle, a breath away from total annihilation. However, they give fighting regardless of that. At some point you ask yourself, why?
34 million were killed by the BETA in a single week. They had no chance to fight back, run away or hide. Almost half of a whole country's population was slaughtered without even being able to resist. Think about dying like that. The game tells the story of soldiers who were the chance to live a different life. They are chosen people who can actually fight back for the Earth, make a difference. Everyone dies one day, and that's why you have to take the opportunity and don't waste your only chance. The unit A01 knew that, very well. Kyozuka-obaa-chan knew that. And even Marimo, as she noticed the teeth of the beta starting to split her skull open, knew that until her last breath.
Isn't it great to use your life for something, instead of dying for nothing? Of course, NOT dying would be the best outsome, but unfortunately, humans are not immortal. But remember the Valkyries creed? You have to make sure that you go at the best moment. And that's exactly what happened, as they destroying the FUCKING ORIGINAL HIVE. Think about how many people would love to die just for that. For a soldier, and for anyone who truly cares about the future of the Earth, there is nothing but beauty on giving your life for that purpose. That's why I felt, at least.

I thought the very end wasn't depressing because Takeru ends up without any memories of what happened in a world with everyone alive as part of his super harem but I didn't think that was beautiful at all. There was nothing cheap about the ending. It was about the characters meeting their destinies. They had no say in how they were born, but got to choose where they died, and for what reasons they died., In that sense, it was both beautiful and terrible, like a flower growing out the skeleton of a dead animal.

The Final Chapter is debateable. I tend to agree with you, a reset was kind of bullshit, but Takeru matured in an Extra-appropriate way in Extra. He might not have been as strong as he was in Alternative, but he was good enough for Extra. He learned once, he can learn again.

Now, I was bothered by the ending explanations. Some of the shit didn't add up. How Takeru was able to loop at all didnt make sense, as well as the idea that once the causality conductor was removed, the worlds interferred would "disappear". what? Alternative was confirmed in Extra when Takeru went back, why would it suddenly "disappear" just because Takeru destroyed the conductor source in Alternative?

It also wasn't clear if Alternative Takeru ever lived in an Extra timeline at all, hence why he could never return to it, and why Final Extra was created.

It was made up science for the sake of fiction so it can't make complete sense and doesn't have to. I don't think it makes as little sense as you make it sound like though.

He was the summation of all the Takerus from the different Extra and Unlimited routes, so at least part of him lived in Extra.

No ero, but there is one very cute short scene about them. It's ideally like the one in the theater in the main game, only about sweets. The rest is about Munchahusen being as smartass as ever, the three girls having a tea party and M and Sebas talking about Edison, Hermes and Azatoth.
As for Eustia, well, it's more like she reaches the fucking peak of being stupidly annoying during her chapter, then disappears and has maybe ten lines in the rest of the game, like all heroines do outside their chapters. But when you do enter her route/extra stories she's pretty cute.

Last chapter made me hate Lucius pretty fucking hard, hurrdurr I have to torture Tia to save the city as soon as possible even though I'm the one making it collapse. Worst twist ever, with Caim just looking on on the trainwreck. And the hardass assassin getting one-upped in dirty tricks by a noble was just painful to read.

Currently slowly making progress on Celenaria; had trouble finding motivation during the week after finishing chapter 1 and hitting the unvoiced parts, just spent a couple hours on it tonight though. Of course anything I'm reading untranslated takes many times as long as it would in English.

Finished 萌しむ (MoeSim1939) during the week, gawd that was not worth my time, gameplay got horribly tedious, H-scenes were mostly crappy and all of them too short.

Looking for another gameplay VN to play at the same time as Celenaria now, I was thinking about going back to Born Freaks! again but I think I'll do that after Celenaria. Wasted like 4 hours today messing with 乙女たちの戦場 between reading the hongfire thread, reading the official site and Japanese wiki, trying to get it running properly and AGTH hooking properly (was getting fucked over by shitty wordwrapping, the game splits kanji compounds in half whenever it wants), finally quit to do other stuff even though I had it working at last. Maybe I should try Himegari or Kamidori instead.

My problem with just about any gameplay VN though is the abundance of image-based text that I can't hook. Looking up kanji by radical search is such a pain (if I can even read them at all thanks to shitty resolution and microscopic text, had that problem with Spitan).

First one is just Tower of Friends, voiced of course.
Second one is an after story divided in 2 parts, first part is played from Sakuraba's pov and is about him meeting the others and talking about Taichi.

Well, as I said the second trial ended before anything noteworthy. Basically the protagonist gets to know these three girls through a shitty human beings meetup. Then it was mostly about talking to a heroine and seeing her being awkward around certain topics or just plain being unsocial, the reasons are probably going to come up later.
And yeah, you can't save in the trials, so I wouldn't recommend them. Just wait for the first reviews to see if it's worth your time (probably not), I didn't mind it but as I said I'm aware I'm a bit biased.

Speaking of annoying things...I played the trial of Black Cycs next game, Gokuin no sentou. Apparently they thought of a new feature: some of the choices will have a time limit, a very rigid time limit of only a few seconds.

I like the art. It looks odd at first, but you get used to it quick enough. Plus, it helps to remember that it fits the time period the game is set in. And yes, it's far better than you'd expected it to be. The plot is solid enough and the protagonist actually gets shit done. I can only speak for one route and a third of another one here, but there aren't a lot of h-scenes. However, what it makes up for in quantity it makes up in quality.

It's more like plot with yaoi rather than the other way around. It's wonderful so far, but there are plot points which are made obvious really early on (specifically two) which PIL/SLASH could have done a better job at concealing. Other than that, I've no problems with it.

The seiyuu are top notch as well.

Looks pretty solid so far. You can tell that it won't be something groundbreaking or a must-play, but it most likely will deliver if you like this sort of games.

The setting has some potential: It's limited to a night in a skyscraper where everyone turns into murdering/raping maniacs and noone can escape. There's a lof of occult stuff going on (though I'm not too fond of that), the tower is basically called Satan and the latest screenshots confirmed demons.

In addition to the timed choices, it's also possible to walk around in the tower. Limited of course, just from time to time you can choose which floor you want to visit.

I finished Parfait finally. Wasn't fan of the epic tweest in the end at all so I sort of left feeling disappointed. Sure Rikako's stuff after that was good with what Hitoshi did, but eh, I found it hard to feel sympathy for her.
I also didn't enjoy like half the routes of the game (I found Kasuri's and Asuka's meh, and I hated Yui's -Her character just makes me rage of buttmad frustration-). Rea was love though, and I liked the unusual aspect of what Ema's route offered, that was pretty nice.
I found some other aspects kinda disappointing too, but I don't want to seem like someone far too bitchy. It was probably not my cuppa tea, but I liked it enough to say it was worth playing, it's just I hoped to have as much fun as I did with Sekai Dame.

Played a bit of Tenshi no Hane.
Pretty good so far, the presentation/writing is similar to AsaIro, there is a big divergence about 30 minutes that pretty much change the story and the characters you meet completely, it's a pretty interesting concept.

Opinions. For me is a little boring that the maps are so short and easy, while Himegari were long and challenging.

Himegari was more addictive for the following reasons:

-Good plot (or at least refreshing for me).
-Better characters
-Better strategy elements
-More endings and choices

A game is not only addictive for it´s gameplay. It can be also enterteining because of the plot of the characters. I played a few games that i didn´t like the gameplay, but in the end, I finished them for the plot.

I have played a lot of games in my life. Himegari was one of the few excepsions were i liked both the gameplay and history to it´s fullest, finding the later more interesting or atleast enterteining.
In Kamidori you can just Crtl everything and understand the plot perfectly by only seeing the objective at the current mission and the H-scenes. I didn´t find it interesting.

A game that fails at everything except gameplay because is focused on gameplay don´t deserve more than a 8-8,5.

I for one liked Kamidori's plot more then Himekari's, but really it's a battle in the lower regions, Kamidori's was well okey I guess and Himekari's plot felt pretty much like a standard yaruge to me with perhaps a little extra spice on it.

Otherwise I also liked Kamidori's gameplay more then Himekari's, but I agree that I would've liked to have a few more routes or endings.

But at the same time I like Ikusa Megami's gameplay more then both Kamidori's and Himekari's, guess I'm not that big of a fan of strategic RPG's.

Yeah, the atmosphere there is oppressive and the rules are rather extreme.

In one bad end a character commits suicide and his friends are praying outside the scene when the principal comes along and yells at them for doing so. Can you imagine that, their friend is after dying and someone tells them not to mourn? Highly unfair. In another route two of Micheal's friends basically get expelled because they were in a relationship and a Father tells Micheal not to even speak to one of them when he's in the room packing his stuff. The principal then says that the students are forbidden to get in contact with them. Harsh.

You can choose a character and Mutsuki (the fortune-teller girl) tells you something of this characters future, i.e. you can read a short story fragment and an ero-scene of the actual game.

Her fortune-telling isn't voiced. Probably because it's only written for the trial. Nice to see that they made it a bit special instead of just letting you play the beginning of the game.

Before you get to this, you have to go through an abridged version of the first trial. I don't think that there is something new, you can skip this.

Just played through Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu on the PS2, got a fucking bad end and I have no idea why. I hate games like these with weird conditions, and to make matters worse I can't find any decent walkthroughs on the internet.
