OP here, and yeah, the end of chapter 4 was unexpected.

I've been doing the character routes as I come to them, then reloading after completion, so I've done everyone's route except Haru's (although, I guess, the whole main path is Haru's route), and sadly none of them match the main story at all. Still, since the main story kicks so much ass, it doesn't really matter.

It's essentially Death Note in that it's a detective story based on a fight between an evil genius (Light = Maou) and a genius detective (L = Usami, the girl pictured). The Maou launches a complex plot and tries to avoid being seen, while Usami tries to unravel it and catch him in the process.

If Nasu does convoluted, fishy exastential metaphors and art, than this guy (too lazy to google his name) does human drama, action and suspense. It's really the difference between a best-selling mass market fiction book and a art-house poem or something.

I can't call anon a fag for not playing Sharin no Kuni from the same writer, because it's a few years old now, and the art was kind of budget (the music score was good, though). It had a very piognant storyline, an awesome protagonist you weren't ashamed of, and a really good antagonist, and a couple of really good female chracters.

But G-Senjou is a MUST-PLAY. You ARE a faggot if you don't play this game with anons right here at 4chan telling you people over and over that it's the shit, the girls are as hot as fuck, the storyline is Death Note except BETTER, and it's the hallmark game of 2008. There's no excuse anymore -- you will download this game!!!!
