Hey, /jp/ how do I be an otaku?
I argue about the merits of different translation styles, I went out of my way to do exchange trips to Japan, and buy shit I don't need. Watch the animes ya'll go on about, and read mangas as they come out. Learned a bit of Japanese as a result of aforementioned exchange trips (god knows I can't speak it though). I play all the video games, and browse the boards. I collect pointless shit, and I fap to the right stuff.
But I don't feel like I'm participating in this despite all the time I put into the... shall we say 'culture' of it. What am I doing wrong?

Is this important to being an otaku?

You don't. Please don't ask this sort of question.

yes, avoid contact with it or else you will become a weeaboo

Ah.
Well, I don't want that, I guess.
Anything else I should avoid or specifically do?

Why do people sage so much in these more outlandish boards? Is it meant to do something?

alright i have been too friendly by /jp/ standarts, you should get out.

as for sage, just look at its function, does nothing else.

Mhm. I'm honestly surprised I haven't had someone crying at me for posting here without being a part of the 'in group'. (though I'd be surprised if that didn't happen and I where 'acceptable' by /jp/ standards)

Regardless, I honestly am trying to grasp what the whole 'otaku' mindset is meant to be about. Though the only way I can really engage anyone in conversation on this board is to be a pretentious asshat or to try to sound like I have no idea what I'm talking about and hope I attract enough people in order to engage in an actual discussion with someone who cares.
Ya' understand?

And I do want to reiterate my question as to what the point of saging is on such a (comparatively) slow board is.

Does this board become more exciting to read when drunk?

It just means you are so so far removed from the essential purpose of /jp/ and 4chan. Just be yourself and stop playing identity crisis.

>> No.7265770

Do you have a waifu?

No?
Well then try to find one. Don't exactly look for one, just be open to the concept of having one.

And play Touhou and pick a favorite one, so that you can make autistic threads about her and fight among us on /jp/.

>> No.7265822

Fitting in on /jp/:
1. Become jobless, friendless shut-in.
2. Read VNs.
3. Discuss Touhou.
4. Open portal to Gensokyo.

Above all else, take it easy.

>point of saging is on such a (comparatively) slow board

On the contrary, sage is far more pointless on fast boards, where new posts are constantly being made.

Sage keeps the thread from being bumped, either because it's off-topic, or because the poster doesn't feel their post is important enough to draw extra attention.
