So, I'm at the point where they were told to attack the Original Hive 12/30 and I gotta ask a question, what happened to Section Chief Yoroi and the Grand Chamberlain? I haven't heard of them since the Coup d'etat. And from my own guesses he's probably dead (IIRC he says he was gonna go to some base with the Grand Chamberlain when he gives the Shogun to Takeru to go to Yokohama. And later during the Coup d'etat we find out the bases nearby were captured or something). Which is why Mikoto is no longer a political tool (Chizuru's dad died, forgot what happened to Tama's, Meiya's was explained in game, and Ayamine's dad is dead) and can now be promoted.

I'll laugh when he shows up in the next hour or so of reading.

aside from a01 who else was using xm3? in regards to the piolit tier discussion how much of an advantage was it really giving takeru? wasn't the point of it to allow other people to do the moves he was doing without it?

>> No.7258418

>>7258405
Takeru did say the xm3 allows him to do his acrobatic moves using fewer number of commands so the XM3 should be helping him move faster.

He wasn't exactly calm before they gave him the drugs but from what I remember at least he still have some self control. After the drugs he just stopped thinking and started raging

>> No.7258420

>>7258405

It wasn't due to one single thing.

It was a combination of Alternative Takeru's PTSD from being killed by BETA, his own memories of loss from Unlimited, the stimulants and hypnotic therapy which made him lose it. His rage at Meiya was partially due to feeling like shit, since he had the stims, a tranquilizer and truth serum in his blood and was still under the effects of hypnotic therapy + was reliving his trauma.

Nobody else aside from A-01 and Tsukuyomi's unit are using XM3 in Alternative. Takeru is a naturally superior pilot to everyone else in MLA, but the XM3 puts them close to him such that differences in TSF specs can spell the difference in ability. Takeru was a better pilot than Sagiri during 12-5, but his Fubuki was weaker and he had additional burden.

XM3 turns newbies into veterans, veterans into elites, elites into super elites and Takeru into a god.

The Takemikazuchi is also DESIGNED to be more powerful than the Shiranui since the Shiranui is a grunt suit designed to see widespread deployment throughout an Armed Force.

>also why is the fubuki 97 and the shiranui is 94 if the fubuki came first?

Summary:
Everyone is pretty pissed Meiya, Yuuhi and Kasumi all get the conveniently open seats by Takeru. Chizuru proposes a new seating arrangement, Yuuhi and Meiya are against it.

Yuuko comes in and calls Takeru a love nucleus or something, I forget the term from Extra. Proposes a new cooking battle to decide who will sit next to Takeru, everyone gives their best "I won't lose!" speech. Takeru just gives up and says do whatever the hell you want.

First Lieutenant* Yui, the unit's commander, was seated in her cockpit in silence. She was enthralled by the panoramic view of faint blue light that surrounded her.

Images from the external camera of her machine engulfed her vision, the visual data directly projected onto her retinas. It was an unforgettable experience, the mesmerizing view all around could easily fool her into thinking just her body alone and unaided was floating and in flight.

The surroundings were so...alien...created by a species not of this world...beings not even of this solar system. There was this slight sense of subtle beauty invoked by the faint phosphorescence glistening glow of the unending cavernous passageway.

Yui took the spectacle all in, but then her heart momentarily surged...

Being thrust into a mission inside a Hive no doubt caused extreme mental tension to any participant, but Yui's willpower was remarkable. Her ability to control herself in such an extreme situation was uncommon and unnatural.

She was a natural born soldier. Her raw sense of spirit and willpower reinforced and refined since infancy to now. Tempered and hardened into who she was today.

【Yui】

"...Disgusting."

She murmured whilst narrowing her eyes at the view.

The purity of her spirit was just supernatural at the lack of a better term and just one of her main qualities.

To be disturbed by such thoughts, such images, to have your heart waver at the thought of it all was a sign of weakness and inexperience.

They take aim with their rifles and open fire on the unending horde ahead that outnumbered them easily 100 to 1. The sound of 36mm rifles spewing forth round after round becoming the dominant sound that howled away in the rapidly filling main passageway. Wave after wave fell to the bullets ripping through carapace and flesh.

However despite the attack starting off smoothly the vanguard unit rapidly lost momentum as it advanced. The four Shiranuis were forced to wade through the mountain of corpses and blood that washed up around their feet.

The wave of destroyer classes came crashing down into the tunnel in the far off distance, their hulking forms picked out by the infrared sensors of her Shiranui, the image magnified many times so that it seemed they were merely a simple outstretched touch away.

The lumbering beasts turned every so slowly around until they were facing her and her comrades. Then like a violent tidal wave they set off into a gallop, surging forwards as one. This visage of impending destruction...this was the form that BETA took when their hated enemy, mankind, invade their territory.

Total Eclipse 43.jpg

【Yui】

"White Fang 3...are you good to go?"

She queried the other pilot, as they discarded their Type 87 assault rifles, the ammunition inside barely expended. The huge, suspicious looking new rifles that were as big as the Shiranui's themselves were locked into place, the stocks of the weapons wrapping around and over the Senjutsukis' right shoulders. A sharp crackle of energy then a harmonious cry of gunfire drowned out everything. From the gaping maw of the Model 99 Electromangetic Rifles spewed forth a cascading torrent of 120mm shells, achieving firing speeds equal to that of a chain gun.

Empty shell casings were expelled from the containers behind like a fountain as rounds were constantly loaded autonomously. The incredible overwhelming force of the recoil from these viciously powerful weapons began to shake the entire frame of the two Shiranuis' to the point the cockpits inside were jarring uncontrollably.

Total Eclipse 49.jpg

Yui clenched her teeth as she concentrated on her targeting display and sensors, ignoring the violent vibrations all around her.

On the radar, the swarm of red dots looked as if they had come to a complete stop, their advanced entirely halted.

The first platoon pushed forward again, close quarters combat their forte and the second platoon providing fire support from their position.

The destroyer classes out in the rear who were still in the process of charging fell victim to cluster missiles, which streaked past them and behind their front armor before dispensing scattered child warheads into their exposed skin, obliterating any of the smaller BETA strains nearby.

They could win...They WERE winning.

Suddenly another urgent tone began to beep away in her cockpit, a warning message appearing across her vision.

The experimental model 99 electromagnetic rifle was known to rapidly overheat due to speed at which it fired such large caliber ammunition.

That's why it was equipped with large-scale state of the art cooling systems but when there was trouble with the system an inbuilt safety would shut off.

Unfortunately for her it had decided to fail at the wrong time and the safety system had shut her new weapon offline.

Total Eclipse 62.jpg

Breathless and in desperation she reached out for her Type 87 assault rifle.

Late as fuck to the party, but oh well.

Marathoned Muv Luv and Alternative without stopping to play anything else or even watch any anime, so the whole story felt like one hell of a journey. Extra was unbearable to play through, the very definition of a chore. It was painfully boring, but I managed. Unlimited on the other hand, was really cool, had some pretty awesome moments and worked as an introduction pretty well. Just playing through it was already the fiasco that was Extra.

I finished Alternative a while ago. Man, holy shit.

So far, I can definitely say one thing: best eroge I have ever played, and it's hard to imagine something ever surpassing it. I think it's time to finally start taking my jap studies seriously, because so far, I doubt there's something english translated that's better.
Fuck, from the fighting scenes to the relaxed talks in the PX, everything was just so fucking great. The characters were all awesome, being developed on a pace that felt really realistic and not forced. Art, music, special effects, even the system was excellent, the very definition of a well allocated budget.
Maybe it's me getting too emotional and involved with the games, but man, I never went through so many emotions on a VN before. So far, most of the times I cried with a game were because someone had died and a sad music was playing. But with Alt, many of those times were me bawwing like a bitch with a huge smile of satisfaction. Scenes like when the first Suzano'o strikes Sadogashima for the first time got me yelling so loud that I ran out of air. Lots of scenes with the cast being silly, specially Ayamine also got me laughing hard.

Shit, I'd keep going but I'd have to end up splitting my post in two parts, and fuck that. Just wanted to say that this game was amazing, 10/10 material and my favorite VN so far.

Slowpoke here.I finished MLA like 3 hours ago.Extra felt like a chore so i just skimmed Sumikas route.Well,it was a bad idea since it was the superior Extra route but meh,it sucked.Unlimited was awesome. It perfectly displayed the hardship of war without showing any combat

MLA meanwhile,is the best thing i have ever read and will read. After LOGH and this,i will never be able to look at anything the same way i did.I cried like a pussy when everybody was celebrating,i cried for all the sacrifices made.It was amazing

But i am dissapointed at the ending. It made Takerus character growth seem pointless and the whole NEVER RUN AWAY was demolished when he forgot everything.Ignorance is bliss, right ? And i preferred Kasumi to Sumika so my ending for MLA will be:Takeru, utterly crushed by the death of the whole squad and Sumika realizes he will never be able to live a peaceful life - he has passed the point of no return. He would not able to look at the same people the same way he did - for they are different, but similiar.Memories make you, youAnd he does not want to forget either, for he will honour the sacrifices and deaths of all those around him. With the two worlds now moving away from each other and both will be stable when they are far away enough,Takeru should decide where to stay. And he stays here,to keep fighting.Years later at a high price humanity has destroyed the last hive in europe. Now Takeru has retired - but he is a completely mentally crushed individual. His only joys life are now Kasumi - he does not know is this love or an instinct to protect - but he wants to stay with her and seeing humanity happy and rebuilding. Now he can die in peace, knowing he did everything he could and the credits roll with Takeru looking from the hill near Yokohama base and Kasumi calling him to go home.

Now,time to study japanese properly.Nothing english translated will ever top this.

The "climax" for Takeru isn't the Extra ending, it's just before that, an individual that finally could face his death perfectly calm, compared to his IDONWANNADIE outbursts through Unlimited and Alternative.

HEY,LET A MAN DREAM. yeah,i know all of that,i invented my own facts to suit my imaginery ending.Only mystery to me is why Takeru could remember everything from Unlimited. As far as i understood,Sumikas knowledge does not transfer between loops or did it happen by pure chance and she made Takeru remember due to her awsum 1337 Unit 00 powers ? And i see your point. But for me the speech with Yuuko was acceptance of the end, while the climax was people celebrating victory and the death of Sumika. Now Takeru has nothing and his job is finished. He accepted everything as it is and left happy,i guess.Well, i will have to give Kasumi some love in AF.

Also, any ideas on what VN i should start reading in pure japanese ? I'm not really confident right now in my skills so i will start with some manga but when i get the hang of it i guess i'll need to move to something more complex.Any good visual novels in japanese that don't have a very complex use of the language ?

Yo, I got a question.

I understand that the gravitational anomalies and all that were making Sumika subconsciously sending Takeru back into a time loop. But why in this one does he retain all his physical training and knowledge of Alternative V? I know they explained it, but I can't piece it together for the life of me.

Anyway, I think this might be my favorite VN i've read to date. My only complaints was that it sometimes got lost in its pseudoscientific jargon, and that i'm really conflicted about the rape scene. On one hand, the scene feels a little exploitave, as it seems kind of set up like tentacle rape fetish porn; it could have been handled differently and given us the same idea, and not give people with a /d/ fetish a boner. And yet, if it didn't portray it like that, i'm not sure if it would have felt as powerful to me. My jaw dropped for like 5 full fucking minutes, as the disgust for what the BETA were doing to a character i've grown to love and appreciate with that specific portrayal of pure sexual deviance just compounded like a motherfucker. And I sort of failed to see the need for Takeru not to have fully voiced dialogue. The scene where he holds Sumika's corpse in his arms after he was told everything by Kasumi on the way back home would have been even more powerful, and I nearly fucking lost it in that scene anyway.

That all said, this is most likely the best VN i've ever played. One thing i've always given KGNE credit for is the fact that it did drama REALLY well, and I feel that age has really mastered that. Age has shown with this VN that they are fucking amazing at dramatic timing. All the most poignant and shocking scenes were placed at all the right times, and always managed to hit me where it hurts; THIS is how you get people attached to characters. The game made me love every character (even that fucking whore Mitsuki ended up being incredibly likable) and I haven't felt more emotionally attached to characters like this in a long time. By the end of Takeru's Extra -> Unlimited -> Alternative trek, he really did become an amazing soldier and an amazing person; I haven't liked or felt an attachment as strong to another main character in a while.

Alternative was like a fucking awesome mix of Starship Troopers, Ender's Game and UC fucking Gundam, with that element of character drama age seems to be so good at. This is probably visually the best VN i've ever played as well, as everything feels so fluid and immersive, and the battle scenes really put you in the heat of a battle, even audiovisually, which is fucking astounding for this medium. I don't even give a shit that Alternative's choices didn't really matter much; it told the story it needed to tell, and it was sort of the point of the plot. I'm shocked that they took so much time to build up such great sci-fi, and how it not only worked but worked beautifully.

BRB, learning japanese to read the side shit. I'm serious too, i'm starting today.

Mel is lovely, nice to see she's getting her own game.

Overall I enjoyed TDA 00. I especially liked how they go out of their way to make you complacent and then hit you with a BETA attack. It happened just when I was starting to think the scenario was kind of boring without any TSF fighting.

Unfortunately, my least favorite character (Lillia) is the only one who apparently survives. Will wasn't so bad compared to other age MCs. Though we'll get to see more of Marimo (returned to being an eishi, now a major!) in TDA 01.

Willpower influences experience in the loop, and in that particular case Takeru's powerful desire to redo everything with prior knowledge after losing the Unlimited heroine allowed him to retain his training and knowledge. You'll notice the first thing he does when he loops is cry, then have a deja vu feeling when he sees Meiya.

Scene is shitty, but you can see what age was going for there. If it wasn't silly, you'd hold it against Sumika. But if it wasn't traumatic, you wouldn't get why she was in so much shame.

My only complaint is the inflation thing. They could have kept it alien but had to do stupid shit like that and give the impression the BETA are pervs instead of scientific aliens.

Even though he's incredibly mature by the end of Alternative, you saw what happened when he went to the Extra Branch. There's no way he could have been at peace without getting wiped like that. I and pretty much everyone else who has beaten the game agree that it's a shame that all of those hard-learned lessons Takeru went through in Alt seem to have gone to waste, but him growing up was what made the Kashgar infiltration a success and allowed him to go with dignity. On top of that, he matures at the end of each Extra route and Unlimited too, it happens once he finds a woman and was only delayed in Alt because his woman was tough to find. Sure, it's not as deep a maturity but it's sufficient for the scenario. You don't cling to life lessons you learned in the horrors of war.

Takeru was God Tier in Unlimited and Alternative because he knew video game attacks, right? How broken would Ayamine (in her route she easily beats Takeru) and Mikoto (this one's obvious) be if they went to the UL and ALT world?

>> No.7267205

>>7267081

Ayamine and Mikoto were not actually better pilots than Takeru, they were able to anticipate his moves very well. It's the same for when Takeru beat Meiya in hand to hand early in Alternative. Predictability was a big reason why the vastly inferior human race could survive 25 years against the BETA.

Even without the control ideas from Extra, Takeru would have been a pilot on Sagiri's level, but probably not a steel god of mass destruction. And even then, it was partially because the technology was able to meet his demands - even Amuro Ray eventually found himself held back by his own Gundam.

I'm not going to determine an order but others I really enjoyed include Umineko, Sharin, Tsukihime, Planetarian, Kikokugai, Sekien no Inganock (a bit too episodic though) and probably even Fate/Stay Night (dragged frequently but there were a lot of awesome moments).
Swan Song was really good but I was let down by overestimating it. I found there were only a few scenes where the writing really shined.
Besides Kirari's endings, I found KiraKira way overhyped.
Aoishiro was consistently decent but uninspired.

There's a bunch of stuff I still need to read/finish though. I'm sure I'll love Ever17 (or the final route) when I continue it. Same with Symphonic Rain. And I expect Chaos;Head to be pretty good. Fair enough. Cross Channel was my favorite VN too, before I played Alternative.
Then again, for me, Alternative is honestly light years better than CC. Seriously, I don't care if I'm overhyping it or being exaggerated - I doubt there's an english translated VN that even comes close to a fraction of how good Alternative was.

Well,
Chizuru's father was dead.
There was a chance Meiya's usefulness as "another" Yuuhi was discovered.
That man with impeccable style was missing, so Mikoto couldn't be used as a tool if he's not there.
The people that Ayamine could've been used to influence were mostly killed in the Coup.
And I can't remember about Tama.

>so can someone explain why squad 207 was no longer politically useful after the coup?

1. Meiya's existence was leaked to the Americans, so if they abduct her they can exert pressure on the Japanese government. It's much better to promote her to the suicidal A-01 and hope she dies so that never happens.

2. Chiruzu's dad is dead and his administration disbanded so she no longer has any political connections to current imperial gov.

3. Yoroi Sakon is suspected of espionage against the UN, his daughter is a potential liability as long as she's stationed on base. Better to kill her off.

4. Undersecretary Tamase is distrusted by the Imperial gov because they believe he had a hand in the coup (he probably did, and the pro-Alt V HSST incident too), again his daughter could be a threat if she stayed on base.

5. Ayamine was Sagiri's fiancee, she could potentially rally the coup supporters again. Better kill her off before she gets the chance.

"political value" is misleading, basically the imperial gov didn't want the kids of high profile Japanese getting butchered for Alternative IV. But the coup gave the UN and/or Imperial Government a reason to want to dispose of Squad 207.

I think Takeru is probably the only one of that group who was promoted without an ulterior motive.

Hmmm. Starting Extra I was initially thinking from the art 'well, staying away from that blue haired girl, that hair looks absolutely stupid'. Then I started playing, and Sumika drove me nuts. Meiya, on the other hand... the end of Extra endeared Sumika to me a little bit, but man every installment made me more and more attached to Meiya.

So I'd say Meiya>Chizuru>Ayamine>daylight>Mikoto>Tama>Sumika. Not sure where the other girls fit into that... probably somewhere in that daylight.

For me it's a Schrodinger's Cat scenario between Meiya and Sumika, then > Chizuru > Kasumi > Mikoto > Ayamine > Tama

My main beef with Ayamine, Tama, and Mikoto is they're the most child-like of the cast, and consequently have the least depth even in MLA. I know MLA was about them maturing, but it felt a lot more concrete for Chizuru: she had responsibility, rejected it, and subsequently lost everything, and so found new meaning in the ashes of her old life. Right before Kashgar, she even expressed a dream and hope for the future, something Mikoto and Ayamine didn't have. Tama had one following the coup but it wasn't touched on again.

I expected more out of Ayamine in particular. As the only one of the cast except Takeru who was in a relationship, I'd have thought she'd have a more mature attitude toward romance. Then again I haven't played MLA with her scenes so I dunno how far age went with her.

Meiya is easily a #1 or #2 character. She's the most mature of the group and had a great relationship with Takeru. Sumika is also a #1 or #2 if she won over the reader, but judging from a lot of /jp/ opinions she usually didn't.

After that, opinions are going to split, but I'd say Yuuko. Yuuko was fucking awesome. You hate her one minute, hate her the next, but by the end you respect the hell out of her.
