I've just learned that Sakuya isn't present in UFO onwards. Instead, we get yet another shrine maiden, Sanae. This is a thread dedicated to the memory of the best selectable character Touhou series had to date.

You were always dependable and worth coming back to 1CC the games. We had a good run, but all good things must come to an end. You will always be my perfect and elegant maid.

Both of the games you mentioned had only Reimu and Marisa to play as. UFO brought back 3 selectable characters and threw ANOTHER miko instead of the series veteran maid.

Keep in mind MoF was made after ZUN took his "break" from Touhou, so that's why it's a a little plain and basic.

As for Sakuya, it doesn't really make sense for her to be going around solving incidents. Even in one of her endings she says that she'll let Reimu handle them from then on. The only time her going out made sense would be IN since that actually effects her master.

Yes, this was her ending of Phantasmagoria of Flower View.

ZUN was basically saying "she's not showing up in future games". And he's gone through with that.
Sakuya fans need to deal with it.

Merlin is fun too. But her controls can be very annoying sometimes.
I prefer Lunasa because it is very easy to genocide spirits (they stick to her scope like flies on flypaper) with her and her shot is wide. Plus it's very fun and efficient to shotgun Lily White with her charge attack while under invincibility.

She's still damn good in the fighting games, at the very least you can guarantee that if there's a new Touhou fighting game, Sakuya will be amazing. I may really like her, but I won't let it affect how I think of other characters.

What you anons are forgetting or are failing to understand is that sakuya was a character created in the middle if the maid craze in japan.

The reason sakuya got the proverbial shaft, is simply because maids are not that popular anymore. Take for example, a certain popular manga about a fighting butler. The change in attitude toward maids and the fall of the popularity they once enjoyed is quite evident in that manga now when compared to the earlier chapters.

I hate to admit it, but zun was riding a trend. When people got tired of maids, sakuya had to go. It's the fans own fault for not exploiting the canon friendship that seemed to be developing between her and marissa in EOSD not to mention the whole story about her coming out of her shell to give relationships with others a shot.

Sakuya will come into play again. She was in five games. (EOSD, PCB, IAMP, POFV, IN) It's ok for her to stand down for a while.

There's more to Gensokyo then the Scarlet Devil Mansion (though I love it as much as anyone) and on top of that if we just endlessly retread the same places, how will ZUN introduce new stuff?
