Do /jp/ have the powerlevel of eastern "youkai"? Includes all the myth creature like kyuubi, orochi, phoenix, dragon (various type), oni,...?

I think the top 5 are: Sea Dragon, Fire Phoenix, Unicorn, White Tiger and Black Snake-Turtle. But not sure about the others.

Toire no hanako, the Japanese bathroom loli. Died from extreme bullying. Power level: TOILET MOE

Unicorn here isn't the horned horse from the Western Myth, it's a mixed creature that has the head of a dragon and the body of a lion (various version).

The Five Element Theory:

Wood: East - Dragon
Fire: South - Phoenix
Earth: Center - Unicorn
Metal: West - Tiger
Water: North - Snake-Turtle

Unicorn more or less translates into the mythical Kirin, another one horned horse-thing.

The tofukozu is so badass. It will feed you tofu. Wake up in the middle of the night, damn thing breaks into your house with a block of tofu. Try to run, it's there with tofu. Hide out someplace else for a couple of days, and it will find you and bring tofu. Lock yourself in a vault, seal it airtight, and before you die from suffocation, it will be there to feed you tofu. Smash it, step on it, burn it, run over it with a car, blow it up... you will be fed your tofu. There's just no escaping it.

You're not worried about him using Joyeuse?

And besides, that pic is ancient. It's not the repainted Genbu.

Judging by gear, icons, lack of BRD buffs, it's probably way back in the day when people would spam 300% Spirits Within stuff to kill it.

The Tengu.

Because they are the only youkai who, like human, build themselves a society and create network of information. They act based on a military structure as well: well-organized, strategical, and well informed.

Oh, did I tell you they have magical artifact and most of them are supreme martial artists?

For the most part, there are no powerlevels. You usually transform at a certain age or doing some great deed (foxes get tails as they age/perform services for Inari, many bestial demons become senri with age, sazae-oni gain the ability to take human form after 30 years, dragons apparently have countless transformations etc.) but your general power depends on what you did in life, even ordinary humans and beasts can gain untold power just by being in the right place at the right time. For example, even Yama, the god of death, was once human - he was the first man to die, and upon finding the afterlife empty, he declared himself its rightful ruler. No one challenged him since.

Vengeful dead are probably considered the lowest, but more than a lack of power, this is more about the fact that those miserable dead are to be pitied. Animal and object spirits are likewise considered rather powerless and intent on good-hearted deceit more than any sort of malice. Highest tiers, exempting deities or deified creatures, are most likely the redeemed demons that have turned to Buddhism to atone (as well as accomplished human Buddhists, since those can perform miracles with ease.) In this category you find the likes of rakshasa, oni and tengu (of the mountain priest type, though. The more animalistic variants like the koppatengu are still weak, and those who turn to mischief are usually defeated by ordinary mortals.) that serve under a guardian deity (often Bishamonten or Acala.) Hundun is potentially Azathoth tier, though, in fact he might actually be Azathoth.

Nice otoroshi, by the way.

The idea of powerlevel as we know it was nonexistant until the arrival of teenage fans because of modern media (tv, internet). Usually, in ancient stories certain god defeated the other using tricks, alliances and so. Rarelly the battle was about sheer power or technique. Why? Because it's boring/ lacking of imagination.

In other words: get out, secondary.

Does /jp/ know of any good sites on Yokai? I've been re-interested in them lately since reading up on the Yokai roots of Touhou characters.
