Why is Subterranean Animism so damn hard? It seems like the bullets move a hell of a lot faster then they do in the other games. Did they up the speed of the bullets? Sorry if this question seems obvious, its my first time trying out SA.

I find UFO much more difficult than SA. Most of SA can be dealt with by memorizing set patterns rather than simply testing your reflexes with random patterns. Stages 4 and 5 are great examples of this.

tbh I havn't played too much with UFO. I don't feel compelled to play it as much because the characters don't interest me. I really like the cast of SA and I feel bad about liking characters from a game without playing it at all.

You're correct OP. SA and StB are the hardest games in the series. ZUN himself has said the difficulty was up for those two games. UFO is probably the third hardest; it is harder (or easier) depending on how good you are with the UFO gimmick.

As for the easiest games in the series, IN, PoFV, and Touhou 13 are by far the easiest. Touhou 13 is the successor to IN so ZUN said he's making it more accessible to casuals. Touhou 13 = baby's first danmaku.

Not from what I've seen. No tag teams + it appears to utilize some new version of the UFO system (only I guess it's little spirits instead of UFOs now). We'll have to wait and see to really know though, although I honestly wouldn't have minded the tag teams making a return (with the ability to unlock each member of the team as standalone playable). I want to play as someone kind of out there like Suika, or have new teams like Mokou/Keine, Aya/Momiji etc.

SA was a pain until I figured out orin. From then it's a breeze.
Except for Heaven and Hell meltdown, The first time I got to Utsuho I was feeling pretty confident with 4 lives left and it just kicked my balls.

Oh hey my thread is still alive. So after playing SA for awhile switching back to the other ones makes 6-10 hilariously easier.

Now more on to topic and less blog, What do you guys use for SA? I stick to Needles Reimu or Suika Reimu.

SA easy: haven't played that yet
SA normal: people say it's hard
SA hard:nobody ever talks about, not much harder than normal
SA Lunatic: requires memorization, not that hard over all

UFO easy: haven't played that yet
UFO normal: without memorization: can be hard for Normal; with memorization: 8 lifes on stage 3, full lifes/bombs on stage 4
UFO Hard: even more memorization, pretty hard Nazrin
UFO Lunatic: Nazrin is easier, rest is harder than Hard

People say SA is really hard, but that's only because they play Normal. SA has one of the easier Lunatics to 1cc.

UFO Lunatic, on the other hand, is probably the hardest out of anything the Windows series has to offer.
