They just had another 6.0 quake. Apparently no warning of tsunami, though.

Some people are giving me the impression that the entire country is in shambles and ruins.
Some people say it's just a handful of towns along their eastern coastline that's affected.

How bad is the overall situation?

It's just a handful of towns that took heavy damage and are in shambles. However, the nuclear plant damage means all the rest of the country is suffering from rationed power and all those kinds of emergency measures.
So while the actual damage is contained, pretty much the whole country feels the aftermath.

There are probably a lot of places along with Pacific coast that are in terrible shape, but the aside from the coast, I believe it's mostly intact.

The number of Japanese still posting normally on forums and chatting on IRC should let you know that it's not like Japan's entirety is in shambles. But many places are out of power, the nuclear plant situation is still developing, there are probably still more quakes on the way which disables safe use of most of their transportation systems, and one can imagine they will be feeling the economic effect of the coastal destruction for some time.

In terms of infrastructure and logistics you could say it's in shambles. Structurally, outside of the coast it appears to be more or less intact.

The Japanese people must take advantage of this tsunami as means of washing away their selfish greed.

>How bad is the overall situation?

4th largest earthquake in history ever since earthquakes have been recorded.

With that being said, the area that was the most effected (Miyagi prefecture) is essentially a backwater of Japan. And the vast majority of the people killed were old people.

The greatest threat is really the nuclear meltdowns and potential for the spread of the radioactive fallout ... but the chances of that happening is extremely low.

10,000 dead from a 9.0 earth quake isnt half bad. Would have been a million if it hit anyplace but Japan.

Just a thought... there is still pressure in tectonics and specialists are saying this magnitude 7 did nothing for it, and assume an even larger quake is bound to happen sooner than later now as is indicated by recent tectonic activity of US east coast.

What if whole Japan is destroyed and kills all japanese people? How would you react?

Doesn't really matter, you want to talk about bloodlines you might as well call, most of Americans, Europeans.
It's really just the culture that sets them apart, fairly sure that will be preserved even if the bloodline is assimilated.

The thing is, if you go into another country, you don't take your culture with you, you take superstitions and traditions with you.
You do things, that you think are very essential, that people from your original country might think rather insignificant actually. It gets watered down and twisted.
It's like the difference between the Castle Lichtenstein and some castle in Disneyland.

>> No.7100377

Under normal circumstances sure, but under the condition that the majority of the race and it's country went bye bye?
You just know steps will be taken to preserve pretty much everything they can, not just by the Japanese but others as well.

>> No.7100420

>>7100377
Actually in that case the degeneration of the culture goes even faster.
You try to force a fixed impression on it and sugarcoat it, polish it and put it on a shelf.
Of course this will change pretty much everything.

Just think about what news say about Japan. They'd be too proud and don't want to lose face so they don't take international help instantly.
Big fucking news: every industrialized nation will first try to cope on its own. That's nothing special to 'the japanese culture'. It's basic protection of your sovereignity and to show strength. Every nation would do so.
