You can derive aithmetic (Peano's axioms) using logic alone and logic is such a simple axiomatic system that it arises everywhere. Logic and math are very closely related and are nearly the same thing. I could go on about "purity" of philosophy, math and sciences here, but that'd be a bit trollish, but no less than your /a/-related picture.
