Feels much better than keyboard since I can actually hit diagonals with the joystick. Pushbuttons have insanely low pressure sensitivity, and it makes deathbombing a breeze.

Not what I intended to use it for, but what I have ended up using it for mostly now. Waiting warmly for CS2.

What would be some recommended ways to play Touhou without a keyboard? I can't go diagonally with a keyboard, but any sort of controller feels foreign because I'm used to movement in Touhou with my right hand, not my left. Plus I like that nice, big shift button.

Yeah, I used my webcam for that a while back. At first I intended to buy a Hori RAP V3, but then I saw the Blazblue LE stick for the same price, but without insane shipping costs. Blazblue isn't that popular, so they were not overpriced like the Chun Li version sticks and such. Even better was that this one was already 20%~ish off when I purchased it, looks like it went up in price on Amazon again.
Numbered from 1-1500 too, its pretty sweet.

You get used to new control schemes pretty quick. A word of warning though, it seems Madcatz TE sticks only function on older intel exclusive USB formats, and not on the newer Enhanced USB that you see on most computers now. If you have an older pentium laptop, it will probably work, if you have a newer one you're out of luck. If you're on a desktop, I purchased a VIA chipset PCI USB expansion card so it could be read.

>>7073379
I used white mineral oil. The kind that's used for sewing machines but it probably doesn't make a difference. Put a few drops onto the shaft below the dust washer and move it around to spread the oil. I heard lip balm works too but you'd probably have to open your stick up to apply it properly.
The difference is like night and day. Should have done this sooner.

Quick question, I've been looking for a cheap joystick, but all the ones I find are for PS3 and Xbox, these will work on a PC right?
Don't they both use USB?
Also, should I look for 8 button or 6?

>> No.7073544

>>7073516
Both PS3 as well as Xbox joysticks will work just like regular controllers on a PC. For PS3 sticks you will need a special driver (even though it uses USB).
Are there even any console joysticks without 8 buttons? In any case, as all the games you'd play with a stick don't require more than 6 buttons it doesn't really make a difference.

The idea of playing with a stick is really odd to me. Every time I hit the arcades and play something old like Galaga or 1943 (which is honestly the only shumups you will find outside of japan nowadays) the controls seems stiff. And it's not because the cabinets are old, is because a stick feels too mechanical and the motion too big. Maybe I'm not holding it right or I don't have the right feel, but I would never be able to clear monsters such as StB 9-6 with one of those. Such precise input I can only achieve with the keyboard, where I have a finger ready to press any direction that I want to go at any time, rather than moving my whole hand.

Pads are OK, but not good enough for me neither. I have no problems in sticking with the keyboard, I can 1cc all the games, half of them on hard and cleared all the extras, but I heard the top players always go for sticks/pads, it makes me worry if this is actually holding me back.

>> No.7074151

>>7074136
I know what you mean. The stick itself is a crap bat top with ridiculous resistance, same for the pushbuttons.

I think sanwa are the lightest motion and touch response which is what I, and most people who buys sticks these days tend to use.

>> No.7074306

>>7074151
Sanwa is for fighters, Seimitsu is for shmups. The distance you have to move to activate the switch on a Seimitsu is very small, even smaller on some models. And the springs have a lot of tension, so it snaps back to neutral immediately. Very good for making small, precise movements like you need in danmaku.

Even including the price, it's incredible.
It's one of the absolute best sticks you can buy, stock, without modification.
It's also the best stick you can buy with intent to modify as well. The PCB is common ground, so you can easily add support for other consoles, it's easily opened to swap parts, fairly modular for replacing art and the top panel, and so on.

Especially if you can get it on sale, it's the best for the price, the only thing that could be better for touhou is a seimitsu stick instead of a sanwa. The sanwa is still great though, and it's not that difficult or expensive to switch it if you decide to.

The thing about sticks is that they don't necessarily make you play better. They're about on par with a decent controller in my opinion. Some people might have stronger preferences but that is subjective.
However, it's definitely much more fun to play with a stick, no contest. It's like you're really a Japanese kid playing in the arcades.

Also, Seimitsu parts work great for many games, not just shooters. I even play fighters and many emulated games with my LS-32.

The LS-40 is also worth a try if you want a really tight stick. It's like anal sex. Or so I've heard (about the anal sex part).

I have one of these, but am looking to replace it. Mainly because the stupid macro button (red) is so close that I tend to accidentally hit it and go into "no buttons work" mode.

It is really hard finding a controller that you are happy with for some reason. PS2 and Xbox controllers feels too cramped because I keep 3 fingers under it, and 1 finger at the side, while they are designed to fit 2 under and 2 at the sides.

I also sometimes accidentally hit the "reconnect" button in the center, but can't understand how my D-pad thumb gets way over there.

Anyone got any recommendations? (preferably 6 buttons top and a D-pad)
