It's true that the writing of Madoka is pretty disappointing, it's only saved by the concept really and the one who thought about it was Shimbo.
The characters are weak and go from one extreme to the other just to advance the plot and the overall setting is retarded.

Urobuchi isn't a bad writer, his prose is actually pretty good despite the lack of originality in his works, but he clearly dropped the ball here.

Everything is pretty high quality I would say.

You mean pen, right?

I admit, Sca-Ji's technique is way too unpredictable and random to beat, even if you admit your wickedness, like Narahara did. Gen is close to admitting that, but he still wants to be the hero of Justice, which puts him under great psychological pressure unfit for the true war... err, writer.

Personally I still like Saya and Phantom a lot, Django was fun too, nothing will ever change that.
For Madoka, I watch it and it entertain me, but it doesn't mean I can't see the big flaws in the writing.

Characters who go from one extreme to the other or act in completely incoherent ways just to further the plot, a setting that leave a lot to be desired.
Sayaka's melodramatic arc didn't have much impact in the end as well, felt like there was lot of wasted potential.

Well obviously Narahara is strong, as he has both the mindset and the skill. Though he may not have any tricks up his sleeve, the moves that he does have are more than enough to beat pretty much anyone.
Sca-Ji may be the only writer who have mastered Hiru no Tsuki: his unpredictability is too much for the most writers to handle. Though he does talk too much, and a clever opponent will use that opening to prove his superiority.
Gen is a lone wolf who have lost hope for the world, yet still continues to fight. His relentless assault has become his trademark, but it's not hard to beat him on the field he doesn't have much experience in.
Nasu is an old man who only brags about his old victories, even though no one is quite sure they were that great. No one have seen him in action for quite a long time, so most people don't even take him seriously anymore. He may rise again, but who knows how much time it will take.
Ryukishi is known for his long combos, but he quickly gets tired. If you wait for him to finish his combo, you can beat him blindfolded. That is, of course, if you live long enough to see the end of it, as it's quite strong around the middle.
Baio was pretty average at the beginning of his career, but then he discovered his strongest technique and used it right away. He has grown quite attached to it, though, so that makes his style more predictable.
