Hey /jp/. I just ordered my first figure. I've never had any posters or figures or manga or any Anime related paraphernalia at all, and consider myself essentially a closet Anime fan who tries hard to be an unobnoxious and inconspicuous about his hobby as he can.

But I just couldn't resist this one. Do I get an Otaku level up for this? Is this the next level?

Enjoy your bootleg my friend.

>> No.7050285

since it's your first item then yeah, you've entered the money void. try to keep out if you can.

Unless you pay 20k yen off auction site or got an used hotglue good, the shiki that you bought is a bootleg.
I suggest you to cancel the order while you still can.

>> No.7050316

if it comes from china/hong kong, it's probably a copy
if it comes from japan or america it might be a copy
especially if it's cheap (nendoroid miku comes to mind) but a high price isn't an automatic sign it's real

>> No.7050327

That was actually my first figure, too. I got her when she first came out, though.

Poor thing. You bought a bootleg.
Next time if you want to buy out of stock item, I suggest you to use mandrake, yokatta, tokyo hunter and other proxy services. Popular out of stock figs usually cost upward of 20k yen or about 6-10k for used good.

>> No.7050387

You know, the one fig I ordered from Hong Kong for 20 bucks with free shipping actually looked great.

I mean I know the chance of that happening was small, but I was happy.

You are protected via ebay and paypal, and the seller even allows returns.

No negative feedback. Usually bootleg sellers WILL have negative feedback on their profile.

You are probably ok.

>> No.7050449

>>7050432
Just wait till you get the figure. Then check if it's a bootleg. If it is, either return it, file a paypal claim or keep it.

if you already paid for it probably not but you could ask. it's the weekend so it shouldn't have been shipped out yet.
it's not a 100% chance it's a fake but not a 100% chance it'll be real either
for returns they generally want you to pay for shipping back which means a good $20
if it comes and it looks good and you don't care if it is real or fake then keep it
some fakes are fairly close to original so if you didn't have a bunch of photos showing you the exact differences between real and fake you wouldn't suspect a thing

Don't let these guys get you too worried.

You paid below what others were charging, but still a reasonable amount of money for a figure with a lot of other sellers, which means they undercut each other.

The seller has no complaints, and if someone gives him negative feedback he can't hide it.

Many of his figures are highly priced, further increasing the change he is actually selling legitimate items, he isn't going to charge nothing for some bootlegs and price others as high as the originals.

If you get a downs syndrome figure though, take pictures, file a claim right away, take pictures and compare them to the original when you send them in.

I hope your first figure buying experience is a good one, though.

>> No.7050494

>>7050456
also if you want to be a huge dick you can file a complaint as item not as described and when ebay/paypal says you have to ship something back you send rocks in a box with tracking and show ebay/paypal the receipt they'll give you the money back 99% of the time. they like to fuck over sellers.

>> No.7050506

seems to me like you're probably fine. While high price isn't a guarantee of it being real, its usually a good sign. if you get a figure cheap and its a knock off, its kind of like eh i should have expected that. But if you pay a ton and its a knock off, people tend to get angry and the sellers don't last long. the figure was still close to price range of the other people selling it, and everyone had good scores. I think you're fine, and I would certainly wait to get the item first instead of canceling it now. once you have the GSC box you should be able to tell if its authentic or now

also, i was like you a couple years ago. then i went on a spending spree and now i have tons of awesome figures and posters, but a lot less money >_< its worth it though

Anybody know of a site that holds comparisons for fake vs legit?

My first figure purchase several years ago was a bootleg as well. Didn't do any real research and just bought that shit in person. After getting my own credit card, I've learned to be a hell of a lot more cautious.

>> No.7050545

Not OP.

How good is myfigurecollection.net for keeping track of what figures do and do not have known bootlegs? I ask because this particular Shiki is not listed to have a bootlegged version. However, the other GSC Shiki does (end of Details, "counterfeit" in red).

don't buy anime shit from ebay, ever. Use direct from japan sites like amiami. If the fig you're looking for is retired, you're screwed.

I've been looking into amiami recently. How strongly do they enforce that whole "for Japan only" rule anyway? I've wanted to buy a fumofumo from them before, but dunno if it would have gone through.

amiami made an English version of their site specifically for international customers.

Ive ordered two figures off ebay so far and both turned out to be real. Maybe you guys are just a little too paranoid, but caution can be a good thing.
