The only "Chinese" people in Taiwan are the descendants of the Nationalist army that was exiled there when they lost the war against the Communists on the mainland. Can't speak for China dresses, but a plain, long, modest skirt (the kind you pretty much have to sew up for yourself since nobody sells them) does get decently warm, even in Winter. Although still no match for a good pair of jeans.

In either case, it's a moot point since Meiling does wear pants - her having bare legs is just artistic license. Then again, the same artistic license is what allows her jacket, thus returning the cycle to zero.

Depends what the skirt is made out of and what you wear under it. Layers of stockings can get very warm, and a long skirt does a good job at keeping the warmth in. Jeans aren't very warm, or, that's my experience.

I do like seeing Meiling in pants though, a lot more than I do seeing her bare-legged under her dress. It looks more proper, I think it's ridiculous that she should show so much skin.

Also as far as I'm concerned, blows hurt/damage more when direct to the skin. As a martial artist I thin she'd wear pants. But then again she is a youkai. Maybe it doesn't matter for someone like her.

It's a rather strange bit of folklore, that part about a non-virgin's blood boiling.
The flavour is slightly different, but see clearly there's some influence back and forth between China and Japan there - similar seasonings of occasional absurd hilarity in otherwise unforgivingly dark folklore.

Meiling's spellcards have a lot to do with the weather the element of water and wind. Are Chinese dragons considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity or an embodiment of natural disasters? I very much think it's the former. Our western mythology and folklore pretty much always portrays dragons as evil, power hungry entities. I won't even mention the methods of slaying those, each country has their own spin on the matter. Like this one from my country:
A popular version of Smok Wawelski's tale takes place in Kraków during the reign of King Krak, the city's legendary founder. Each day the evil dragon would beat a path of destruction across the countryside, killing the civilians, pillaging their homes and devouring their livestock. In many versions of this story, the dragon especially enjoyed eating young girls, and could only be appeased if the townfolk would leave a young girl in front of its cave once a month. The King certainly wanted to put a stop to the dragon, but his bravest knights fell to its fiery breath. What about katakirauwa, that small one-eared pig spirit that steals a person's soul by running between his legs? I can imagine that as a little girl already, she'd be a fairy-sized, clumsy loli with pig ears, and she'd repeatedly try to take your soul by running between your legs, only to fail for some reason (perhaps she'd slip and fall, or you'd be crossdressing at the moment and she'd see your penis poking through your frilly panties while she's running under your skirt, fainting out of embrassment because she's a pure young girl.)
