Biniku no Kaori isn't really netorare just because it's in the title. It's more of a Netori if you ask me (it's basically like (real spoiler) the mother craves to the protag's cock, she wants him to screw her badly, and then take her away from her husband).
You'd end up disappointed playing it for Netorare because it's only present in 2 bad ends if I recall correctly (the one where the awesome old man husband rapes your girlfriend, and the main climax of the game if you screwed it up somewhere in the story, and then all the heroines get gangraped, and they start loving it later (like your girlfriend who never had anal sex before and now that after like 20 people fucked her anally, she's delighted for having a footlong dick pounding her ass while her boyfriend watches her shockingly.)

>I’ve already started working on the game I’d like to, but since the company that makes the game is known for being a little… defensive… shall we say, I don’t really want to actually announce it. It’s not really about keeping it a secret so much as throwing up enough of a smokescreen to avoid potential headaches. I’m sure astute people can figure it out. It’s a great game with a tremendously fun engine with the only real downside being that both the main two leads are pretty weak. It’s actually kind of funny to look at character popularity polls for it since said female lead ranks basically dead last every time. At least the MC leans towards the Mary Sue perverted jackass end of the spectrum instead of the Mary Sue spineless weakling. They’re also almost the only two people in the game not named after vegetation. Coincidence? I think not.

Absolutely.

It's a sequel to the first one, you continue the romance with whatever Angel you picked in the first game. So you don't get to pick which girl you want as the story goes on, you pick from the beginning from which one you romanced in the first game. The first game builds up all the characters, seems like a waste to just skip that.

The first battle sucked in the first one anyway. I would recommend to stick through a couple more of them. And if you don't like them still, then don't bother with either game.

I was excited for this a while ago, and I took the liberty to take a quick glance at the scripts on tlwiki. The english was... quite unpleasing to the eyes, occasionally confusing. Do they have an editor? (I might help improvise the english to make it better) Or do they plan to release it as it is?

The reason people are somewhat more vocal about supporting MG is because:
a) MG has a more closer relationship with "community" (I feel bad for typing that word) with twitter, blogging about games, employees posting on /jp/, and with them actually listening to what people are saying (reversing the Soul Link censorship, for example)
b) MG is basically a front for Japanese companies, and not some US middle-man catering to mainstream tastes (censorship loli, dropping routes etc.)
c) piratefags are more accustomed to digital downloads that boxes, so a digital-only company gets some sympathy from them

For something comparable, just go to any torrent site and look at comments under Recettear torrents. Butthurt and "saport inddies" everywhere.

Well, I'm a dumbass; I've been waiting for the final version of the patch then I don't even notice it until now.

Perfect timing though since I'm bored out of my mind and just idly browsing 4chan tonight... wait a second, I never got around to downloading the actual game, now downloading over 2GB on my shit connection, won't be done until I'm about to go to bed. FUCK.

I guess I'll play more Anetan even though it's lame as fuck and Faren has a new VA who sounds completely different. I should have stopped playing the Aselia fandiscs after Nim route in Spitan, that was the high point and they've gotten more and more boring from there.

>> No.7032755

Maybe but keep in mind Mangagamer initial releases translations were very, very bad and with typos even.

KiraKira and Shuffle were the games were the perception off "Mangagamer=shit" was turned around, also it was when Mangagamer taken off as a known publisher.

I am not surprised initial sales were not as much due to their unknown and then poor reputation, also VNs were not as known as they are now back then (a lot due to JAST catalog being what it is and their release schedule being what it is) so higher sales now are not as strange.

Also drop the bullshit about the "3 days", I look at media Create sales figures and can see its a matter of weeks and not days, even online only people either forget about it and pick it up later or wait for a review, Shuffle might done well after the word was "well fuck, translation is not shit" was passed.

I wonder if the gameplay in Koihime contributes, too? It might make it more accessible to the wider weeaboo crowd, rather than just us few who play Visual Novels.

Sengoku Rance has also been popular outside the usual guys.

>> No.7032823

>>7032769

Sengoku Rance is damn fucking hard, something you did 4 turns ago can just come and bite you in the ass, its game were EVERY SINGLE THING is against you.

Koihime ... not really, its basically a rock-paper-scissors game were you win when you know what is the formation pattern that the enemy will use and if you lose, you can try again with more troops.

In Rance case, you play because the game is not in the slightly forgiving (even if you are doing things right, it can still bite you in the ass) as in Koihime you are just beating a minigame to advance the plot.

>> No.7032828

>as in Koihime you are just beating a minigame to advance the plot.
This. So much. I'd been hoping that they'd make better use of day limits, formations and Ougis, but no. It's still a fucking joke if you have half a brain.

>> No.7032911

>>7032828

The worst part as in Rance I know WHY I am lossing and if I can do anything about it or not as I have a degree of control, in this one I lost because the minigame is set for us to memorize patterns, when you know what they are going to do you will adapt the counter but I hate bullshit like "reduce enemy to 15,000 before the 10th day" and is there is a strategic event for that? No ... no reason were surviving until the 10th day would work just fine considering what happens.

Care to name other visual novels that also include interesting game mechanics?

I know of Utawarerumono and Tears to Tiara by Leaf, and Eien no Aselia from Xuse. Of those, I thought that only in Tears to Tiara did the tactical mechanics actually add to the gameplay. (Eien no Aselia in particular had some seriously tedious, long winded levels that stopped my completing the game more than once.)

Those are only the translated ones, of course. I have no idea how common these are in Japan.

>> No.7032935

>>7032914
I actually thought the gameplay in Eien no Aselia was pretty good, though the maze in the end was just retarded, and it did get annoying having to go through everything again in subsequent playthroughs. (Though once I finished my Very Hard playthrough I just used my level 99 characters and dragged them back into easy, to make this a very quick process.)

>> No.7032937

It didn't really take THAT long to get through. I just sent Yuuto alone in one direction, and my other eternal in the other, and let my other spirits just kind of do whatever they wanted, sometimes finishing off an enemy or two, or hitting a switch if there wasn't much by it. Not that it wasn't complete bullshit, but it probably looks worse than it actually is.

>> No.7032948

Gameplay isn't too comman in eroges, but every now and then someone puts such things in their products, and then there are some some companies that have some degeree of focus to gameplay titles whos games sometimes can be on console level. 3 most well known gameplay eroge makers are probably alicesoft, Eushully and Softhouse-chara, there are some others like Gigas team baldrhead, dualtail, xuse, eternal, kiss, leaf and circus sometimes. But these quality can vary quite lot.
if you dont mind non-TL'd stuff then my favorite gameplay eroges are Baldr Sky and Himegari (and it's upcoming sequel kamidori which is pretty much asking to eat months of my time with its gameplay as its pretty much fire emblem meets atalier)

>> No.7032959

>>7032914
Big Bang Age, another Alicesoft title, is translated. The gameplay is pretty fun, although it is rather hard and takes time getting used to (I prefer Rance, but many others like BBA more).
As >>7032940 said, Galaxy Angel and Symphonic Rain each have minigames, with GA being more advanced.
There has been some evidence that Duel Savior is being translated. It has an excellent battle system and is quite addicting. You'll have to wait for this one, though.
Ikusa Megami Zero has a translation project, but it's unlikely that anything will come out of it, so unless you can read Japanese, you won't be able to play it. If you can, I highly recommend it, it's very fun, and the storyline is great.
