This is as good a thread as any to tell this story in.

I was sitting on campus today and I notice a flyer looking for "an assistant". There was a disabled girl/lady (Something about needing to be in a wheelchair was all the flyer said) who was looking for an assistant to help her get around, cook, drive her places, such and such.

The flyer goes on about missing being able to go to movies and such and such and ends with the most heartbreaking thing I've read in ages.

"I guess basically I just want a friend to visit with. I'm paying you to be my friend. Please call."

I went to a college with a large deaf community and they really do have a culture. Except it's not so much a support thing as a "shun the rest of the world" thing. Some deaf people can speak and lipread just fine so they can talk to regular people, but the other deaf kids ostracize them for doing so, because they think that if you talk to regular people, then you're too good to talk to deaf people. They paint deafness as if it were the same as wearing weird clothes, but it's not, it's a friggin disability.

I think it would be nice to have a blind girlfriend, especially if she was extremely beautiful but could never get a boyfriend because she was blind.
