I like Danbooru because generally whoever regulates the uploading of material has quality standards similar to mine. I guess the caveat there is that someone who spends all day regulating the uploading of material to an image repository website is probably not the most stable of people. Point of example: 葉月 and FeKa are terrible posters. Throwing an autismic fit over semen jokes is pretty crazy, considering that all of Rifyu's stuff was somehow approved in the first place.

But nobody should be shocked or outraged by this by now.
Danbooru does all kinds of stupid shit all the time, like not allowing 3+ tag searches or hiding loli.
Deleting terrible 4koma is pretty tame in comparison.

For me, the main problem with Danbooru is that they think pixiv is THE only place to get japanese art. For instance, checking regular galleries (e.g. ones hosted on fc2, etc.) is apparently too difficult for them or something.

Limiting tag searches for Member-level accounts is just one of the measures taken to reduce the strain on the server. That's the same reason the comment index switched to the "Prev/Next" page navigation (and the post index, too, after page 1000), why totals like number of comments aren't displayed on user pages anymore, etc...

The two tag limit *used* to be to reduce database load, but not any more. Tag searches were optimized a long time ago. Now it's just Albert's way of selling privileged accounts. Ostensibly loli is blocked because Peter Payne doesn't want his J-List ads displayed next to it, but really it's probably to sell accounts too.

No one else at Danbooru is in favor of those restrictions but it's Albert's site and if that's how he wants to make money off it that's his prerogative. Running a site ain't free.

Let's say I'm after a certain image, I know the character, I know what she/he was doing, and I know what she/he was wearing. With the current system I can use two tags to narrow down what images I see, and then I search through them.
With more tags, I can narrow the field faster and find what I'm looking for by using less bandwidth. The reason is they want to have people donate and that's totally fucking okay, but this "It saves bandwidth" bullshit is just outright idiotic.
