I'm more distressed over the fact that there's so much shitty art on pixiv, regardless of the country of origin.

Though I do find it annoying how western artists incorrectly add that copyright symbol to their signature. That's wrong, they're using it incorrectly, that makes me angry.

I get new artists to follow from the rankings and other artists' bookmarks, and as long as they're good I don't care where they're from.

Text over images bugs me to hell whether its a "copyright", signature, dialogue... blah. I prefer my images clean thank you very much. One JP artist whos art I like almost always puts "SAMPLE" over their images and it just ruins an otherwise great thing. I'm not against artists signing their work just that it sucks when it interferes with the imagery. when trying to look at the picture itself you'll instead be drawn to the sig the one thing you can't unsee. the better artists work it into the image background or out of the way in some blank area. others basically ruin the thing we're supposed to be looking at by putting their name/watermark/what have you front and center

For all you artists what paint program do you use? Sai isn't free anymore. I need something that isn't too bloated, but has great tools for painting and drawing with a tablet, and not so many for photoedit shit like photoshop.

The problem is, nationality (or at least its aesthetic sense) can be judged by art and western artists tend to be intrinsically unable to draw in "anime" style. A lot of the non-Japanese artists I see on Pixiv are pretty good, or at least not remarkably bad. Most of the shitty mspaint and "I drew this on my notebook in class" pics flooding the site is from Japanese people some of that is strangely cute though and I have quite a few pieces of it favorited

Personally I'm fine with anyone posting if you're good. Just make sure you do it in the right place. In R-18 someone posted some zbrush models that 1) sucked 2) were in the wrong place as they were non-H and 3) posted every single ortho he could in variations (an ortho view is basically from a 90 angle - side, front, etc). He also typed out a big ass paragraph in English asking for critique. What the fuck are you doing here? Go post on zbrushcentral or some shit.

As someone who was active on dA a good couple years ago let me say this: at least when this shit with signatures and watermarks started it wasn't about any single person stealing someone else's artwork and claiming it as his or something retarded like "posting it on 4chan", it was about a multitude of websites that made stealing art their business model.
Offering prints, wallpapers(back in the day when there were still people willing to pay to access wallpaper websites), etc. Of course, without paying any royalties or even acknowledging the artists. And no, those weren't one of two cases - it was a pretty big problem.
