In the end, its a fucking game and ZUN doesnt have to explain shit. It was meant to be a cool thing and not to be over analyzed like this.

You do have a point there (with the upper part of your post), however, Utsuho's the only one that actually has AND knows the exact process, not to mention, Cirno's and others' abilites count as ''magic'' by definition of Gensokyo, i.e: something that spontaneously happens without any logical or scientific explanation. Look, I'm going to be honest with you. I never got to Utsuho with any character besides Marisa A and I haven't played Hisotensoku. So please, cite some evidence that she's aware of the theory beyond a basic understanding that atoms exist. Utsuho thinks, and fusion happens. I'll give you that the conceptual level on which nuclear fusion happens is a little more specific than that on which freezing things happens, but that doesn't mean you need a mind like a razor to wield the magic that lets you make stuff happen.

And just because Okuu can make individual atoms fuse doesn't mean she has genius-level intelligence, it doesn't mean she can work out the mathematics of how much energy is required, and how to apply it, in order to achieve what energy yield, in joules. It doesn't mean she knows the particulars of the strong force or gluons or their mathematical properties and what they entail. It means she just knows these things on an intuitive level and can cause them to happen without having to math or engineer her way through it.
