Why are Japanese people such asses? Even when you talk to them in their language, they suddenly stop replying to your messages. What the fuck is wrong with them?

I knew I should've learned some European language instead.

>I knew I should've learned some European language instead.

Indeed, french and german are pretty much the best languages in the world.
Your loss for trying to learn such a shitty and useless language like japanese, fucking wapanese faggot.

You should have learned Spanish or French if you wanted to communicate with people that are tolerable.

Why would you learn Japanese, unless you want to play porn games like us?

Maybe if I post over and over about how I hate Japan and Japanese people and call other people wapanese, someone reading this board might think I'm less of a dork for consuming the most distinctively Japanese elements of their cultural output and playing games in which I molest little bug-eyed cartoon girls.

No, of course not, but it is remarkably dishonest when people who post on this board call others wapanese or so easily launch into tirades about how they hate Japan. 90% of the time it stinks of first tier weeaboos trying to distance themselves from the rest by pretending that slagging the actual country of Japan where real people live somehow makes you less of the insufferable kind of Western otaku that people hate as you go around playing your eroge and beating off to your comic LO shit. I might be some kind of instinctive defense against the daily "u mad weeaboos?" threads from /b/ shitposters and such, but it's just really tedious and transparent. Most people here are far more keen on Japan than the average person whether they admit it or not.

Here you go, man. In the future don't throw those terms around so loosely. Enjoying some aspect of a culture doesn't mean you need to respect their heritage or nation. The amount of real weeabos/wapaneses are very minimal, if any on /jp/, so saying it makes you like you're from /a/. Their language sounds nice and learning another language is always a plus regardless of origin. So, if you like their media and want to learn another language, naturally you'll choose japanese. That doesn't mean you actually adore their country or are an actual weeaboo.

Not the same guy, but it's true that most peoples "i hate japan i just love otaku stuff, japan sux" shouting is just an over-compensation for not wanting to admit they might have a weeaboo side. Not always the case of course.

In my experience the biggest "weeaboo haters" have also been the most Japan obsessed though. They just hate weeaboos for not fully understanding the glorious nippon and such, aka, it's like looking in a mirror and seeing their own flaws, so they flip out. A lot like how male and female otaku call each other gross, yet they're hardly different.

I agree completely. I can understand that people don't want to discuss Japanese architecture or politics or some shit like that, like people always insisted on back when we were called Japan/General, but the way some people always need to talk about how little they care about Japan, how they would hate living there, how all Japanese people are racist and would accept a gaijin in their midst, it all strikes me as defensive behavior, as you said, an attempt at distancing themselves from people who suddenly think Japanese culture is cool after watching anime. Hell, I'd speculate that many of these people have been through that phase themselves, which they're ashamed of, creating further incentive to distance themselves form it.

>> No.6917493

The only people who care, or especially rage about weeaboos are weeaboos in denial who are afraid of looking bad to Japanese people, who they imagine as the ultimate beings no one else can be close to, and who hate anyone who takes an interest in their country. In reality, they don't care.

>> No.6917505

If you play that game, then you can easily link everything, so basically you can't technically dislike anything.

Otaku culture is hardly apart of actual Japanese culture, it's a subset and one which isn't well received/respected.

Japan just lucked out and is the only place producing: High quality animation, series; instead of episodic, high quality vocals, extensive variety of genre and demographics, high sexual tolerance. Great, I'm glad someone is doing it, but it isn't because nihon is amazing or special. If american studios would make quality animation series, instead of episodic shit I'd watch that, but we've got a low tolerance for lolicon stuff, so it wouldn't be the same, still my point stands though.

Thing is, site says that she logged in within 3 hours (Lang-8 by the way, it's a language exchange site) but she didn't reply my message, which I sent last Monday. Come the fuck on, the moment I told her it'd be nice if she could help me practice my Japanese she began writing WALLS OF TEXT in it and although it's usually hard to understand without a dictionary, it was still useful and she even told me about her private life.

Then she fucking disappears. Same thing happened me with a female Japanese penpal a few years back, and I keep bringing this up: We've been exchanging emails for some time and suddenly one morning she sends me a picture of her notebook or something, on which she wrote my name and "I <3". Then she stopped mailing me altogether.

Sorry to admit I've done the same thing in reverse to Japanese people wanting to practice their English... It gets boring after a while because unless they either don't add anything to the conversation, make selfish requests about helping with homework, we have no common ground to talk about, or they even make weird demands about the amount of time between messages and the length of them. I had to make a specific message on my profile saying don't contact me for English help, but I still get those messages now and then. Anyway I'm sure Japanese babes get tons of messages from American weeaboos depending on what site you're on.

Maybe you're on mixi? Start doing twitter or something.

If you really wanna learn the language, start talking to dudes, not just girls.. and find people who have the same interests as you so you can both actually have fun in the conversations. I met most of my initial friends through mixi which yeah, you can't get into now, but now we mainly talk on twitter / msn. Try searching for a term of a series you like and checking out people's profiles that come up, or finding the profile of a creator / artist you like and look through their followers a bit. That's the best I can come up with.

I've learned Japanese pretty well on self study too, talking to people a lot online is a great help, you may even find people to skype with you. Good luck, but losing that attitude will help ya.

>> No.6919157

I started learning myself Japanese a few weeks ago, but I doubt I'd be capable of fluent conversation about anything nontrivial with an actual Jap. At what level would you be capable of conversing in nihongo online without seeming like an incredible baka gaijin? I know a few dozen kanji and I'd say I could probably converse with a Japanese kindergartener.

>> No.6919177

>>6919157
Number of kanji you know isn't really significant online since you can look them up with a simple copy / paste or hover if you have an extension installed. It's more about your grammar.

You probably won't seem like a "baka gaijin" since Japanese people are used to foreigners knowing little to no Japanese and making no attempt to speak it. They're generally impressed by even a little knowledge.

That being said, after just a few weeks, unless you stick to textbook convos, I think you'd end up confusing whoever you spoke with. They might still get a kick out of it, though.
