do you use walkthrough guides when reading VNs?
Or do you prefer trying to make the right choices on your own?

>> No.6899821

Multiple saves and making my own choices. Sometimes I'll use a walkthrough guide if I really want to see a certain path.

>> No.6899826

Most of the times, walkthroughs, since the choices are always either obvious or fucking random, so there's no real point doing otherwise.

>> No.6899838

Everytime, except if it's really focused on the gameplay like an Ikusa Megami.
I see VNs more like books rather than games, no point in losing times with bad end because you didn't trigger some obscure flags and shit.
And some game are really too convulsed with their choices, I pity the fool who would want to go through Forest without a walkthrough for example.

I do the same as this guy.

the "game" aspect isn't really what draws me to VNs. For me, they're novels with pretty pictures, music and nice voices. I only care about either the story or, in nukige, the porn.
So I just use a walkthrough. Otherwise I'd also have to go through the same parts more often until I see the end/route I want, which lessens the emotional impact.

This is true 95% of the time, and there was also the language barrier back when my Japanese was still shit. Picking the right one out of the choices is a bit hard when you don't even understand half of them.

First run through, completely blind.

After that, I use a walkthrough.

You don't have to win the game. You can still see, like 70% of it even if you don't get a good ending.

>> No.6899982

I use a walkthrough but save at every choice, in case I want to see a particular bad end.

Oh god, Soul Link and all the choices.

>> No.6900117

I usually use a walkthrough to see who has routes, how many endings there are, etc. I also usually will only do routes for the girls I like and it's a waste of time going down the route of a girl I don't like by mistake.

The only situation I could think of where it would make sense _not_ to use a walkthrough would be if there were puzzles, you know like in actual western-style adventure games. But I've never come across a VN with anything that could be called puzzle or (challenging but not nonsensical) riddle.
