The trick to the homing attack is that it moves relative to your speed so if you move quickly it moves quickly and fills the whole screen before it is over.

The trick is to move slowly just ahead of it so that it does not fill screen and leave you with no place to move.

Focus is too slow though, because it will catch up with you. Full speed is too fast because you'll fill the screen.

You will have to be clever and make sure you can dodge it AND still deal enough damage not to run out of time.
