(wasn't sure if this should go in /g/ so I came here)

Okay, I'm having problems with Share EX2

I've been trying to get Share to work (first time using it), and so far, I've followed all the directions to use it (put all the nodes in, and all that stuff). However I can find something on share, add it to the download queue, and it won't even start one bit (and yes I took a download that was yellow colored). To further prove something is amiss, I actually left a download in the queue on share for over a week, and it hasn't budged since.

Also, another thing to note is that, when I hit connect for the Nodes, they'll connect for roughly like up to a minute (or a little bit more), and then randomly cut out.

I've crated an exception for share in my firewall as well, yet this problem still persists.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be insanely grateful.

You have forwarded the port in your router too, right?

>> No.6874839

Yep, I've also done that , Should I grab a screen cap of what the logger says when I try to connect?

Did you open up your ports on your router(if you are using one) too?
Check your log tab too. If your ports are fucked up, it looks like this.

Alright, here's my port page (I cleaned it out)

What should I put in there ? (You may be able to explain it better than other places I've looked, /jp/)

>> No.6874883

did you set up an ID and the folders? and disconnecting from nodes is a normal thing, except when your node screen is completely empty with no nodes connected, then something's wrong.

>>6874883

I did indeed set up all the prerequisites, but If you see my image in my post here:

>>6874867

All I need is someone to explain what port I should set it to and I should be good.

>> No.6874915

if there was no "port error" message, your ports were fine. you wouldn't even be able to search any files, iirc. too bad I can't help you with forwarding, since I use UPNP for that.

I find it works best if you set a static IP up if you want to open up a port on a router.
Basically, if you are using share EX2(tcp version), you want to point your router to whatever local ip address you have and set up a port exception.
You want to open up a tcp port that corresponds with what you set for share, and set it to accept any incoming global connection to that specific port on your computer.

>>6874894
the port number can be whatever, I chose 7890 (both tcp and udp, but share uses tcp anyway) and of course you have to set share up so it uses the forwarded port.

btw, check if the opened port actually works here:

turn your system's daylight saving option on

no, i have no idea why this is an issue

>> No.6874963

Alright, so i forwarded the port and set it, and i notice the nodes are staying connected longer, still looking at the log page for the port error (hope it doesn't show up)

>> No.6874967

By the way, how long on average is it that passes before a download usually commences?

>> No.6874980

>>6874967
depends, really. there's that number next to the progress bar that's supposed to show your place in a queue, but it isn't really worth shit. can be half an hour, can be all day. try to add more than one "orange" file an then see if anythings starts.

>>6874967
If its a newly uploaded file with a high cache count, it usually starts in under a minute.
If its an older, more obscure one, its hit or miss depending on who is connected to the node network.
One of the shortcomings of the type of system that share uses is that you can never tell if you'll ever finish what you want to download.

Ok Both of you, I must say (if you were here the whole time helping) thank you so much. It finally started working.

One last thing, is there any specific cluster/nodes I should add? I mean I have a bunch, but you may have different ones than me.

You can just copy/paste that into your clusterlist.txt file.
I have the ==CATEGORY== clusters there so I can sort through them easier.
I pretty never have to add any extra things in there now except dates and events now Or if i want some really strange porn.

there are no specific "good" and "bad" nodes, those are only encrypted IPs of the computers who will initially connect you with the rest of the network, so you paste them only once. as for clusters, I use the usual stuff: 同人誌, アニメ, DVDISO (downloading older files that huge is a pain), 成年コミック (for h-manga), 一般コミック (regular manga), 18禁ゲーム (eroge), つ旧作 (older eroge? not sure), and of course C79 and such for comiket stuff. too bad you can only use five.

And if you ever need to search for something, use a site like http://www.sharedb.info/
Its really good for looking up new cluster words as well.

>> No.6875026

jesus fuck, how could I forget?
http://keydb.telegrip.info/
this site scans literally all files on Share. it has a hundred times more stuff than sharedb, but it also includes fakes.

Alright, thanks a lot, I'm glad you helped me, now I can get a bunch of dat C79. (and other ones too)

Thanks a bunch, yet again

Also, by the way (sorry for this again), is there any decent tool plugins for Share that are good, or should I just run it as is?
