So I just finished my current VN and am debating which I should start next:

A) Sharin no Kuni
B) Yume Miru Kusuri
C) Sekien no Inganock
D) Chaos Head

If you would be so kind, which would you read first anon?
(pic unrelated)

>> No.6848018

Inganock.

Yume Miru Kusuri is shit and I never played Sharin no Kuni or Chaos Head.

I liked Sharin no Kuni, but G-Senjou no Maoh, which was made by the same company, is better in my view

>> No.6848022

Man. Have you only read ever 17?

Read symphonic rain, it is better then everything you have listed.
It doesn't have any H (kind of), so if you are looking for sex play ymk.

SnK is the most well-received of those according to vndb. And I would agree.

Wait what

Play Sharin. Don't bother with YMK or C;H, Steins;Gate is pretty good though.

>> No.6848084

Sharin no Kuni is an experience pretty similar to Ever17 in many ways. It's also close to universally liked in /jp/, so it's the safest bet.

YMK is what many of us read not long after Ever17, so you could consider it too. The experience is very different though (and it's a lot shorter), so keep that in mind.

Sekien no Inganock isn't really worth reading for plot, but it fleshes out a rather interesting setting and has a fantastic soundtrack. If that sounds good to you, go for it.

Skip Chaos;Head.

Chaos Head sucks, or at least I didn't like it.

Yume Miru has some nice porn and I actually liked the Aeka route but is altogether mediocre at best, and really short.

Sharin is fantastic.

I haven't read the other one, so not sure.

I say go for Sharin, it's one of my favorites.

Oh my god what

Seriously get the fuck out of here and stop trying to pretend like you are some super /jp/ regular. sharin is even more baby's first VN then ever17 is, ever17 is actually good with well written characters and suspense, just being slow at times and with old art, while sharin just has a good scenario and art. The pacing and twist are fucking terrible and if you think they are even remotely acceptable you are some generic /a/ cross poster.

OP please. You do need to read sharin, it is a babby's first, as with YMK. All the titles on your list are solid 7s, so feel free to read them, just know that there are much better offerings if you go outside of /a/'s known VNs.

That one anon suggested symphonic rain, which is the only VN I would rate a 10/10 on my personal scale, I've read 25+ VNs, and if you count short games like planatarin, or narcissu, and shitty nukige then it is 40~.
I can tell you can't read japanese but read little busters too, it has a parital patch which is close to done (I think) it is solid 9.5 (10 if you include kud wafter).

Other good suggestions that /a/ and neo /jp/ will not tell you about that have english translations that are reccomendable are

Swan song
Muv Luv (alternative is getting translated and is close to done I think..?, Extra is pretty....moe, but alternative kicked ass)
kanon/clannad (But most people watched the anime and won't be bothered with them, sadly.)
cross channel (Hit or miss, some love it, some hate it. I didn't like it while I was reading it, but when I was done I found that it was a pleasurable experience.)
Crescendo (pretty old game, but very charming and interesting)
Kana imouto (see above, spoiler you probably know how it ends)

Go nuts OP.

>> No.6848159

Can't you make up your own mind, man? Read about the VNs you listed and decide for yourself which one you want to read first.

You can also leave it to chance with http://www.random.org/lists/

At any rate, it's pointless to ask these types of questions unless you're willing to state what exactly you're looking for; in this case: what type of story you're looking, whether you want to save the "best" for last, how much time you're willing to spend on it, etc.

Pretty much anything that is well written whether it be a deep soulful piece or a story that thrills my heart. I'm sure I would enjoy all four in their own way, I just wanted to know which of these others found most appealing.

>>6848153
I've read Swan Song and CC and enjoyed both.
Clannad is not an option atm since I hear it takes months of dedication to finally finish.
Crescendo is one I've been eying just haven't had the time to really reasearch into it.

That doesn't tell me anything, OP and I'm not sure what telling you what I like is going to be the same as what you like but fine, it's not like my opinion is worth much anyways...

I say you should read all 4 (maybe not Chaos;Head, that was disappointing as hell) but as to which one you should read first... well... I don't know. Inganock is a pretty unique experience when it comes to VNs so maybe you should read it first so that you forgot about the usual themes and settings.

Haha. 200.

Hahaha. When you actually read games that take weeks to a month at a time getting to that number is impossible, unless your entire repertoire is nukige and you are counting your cute little DS games as full fledged games. Also I can rarely spend 10+ hours a day on a game, 3-5 at most If I am really sucked in, due to not being a neet ;-;

Like I said, I was only counting games that would be counted as large stories, with multiple, story changing routes. I've read all the the infinity series games, ever17 being the only one even note worthy, and other ones from vndb with high ratings and "long" / "very long" as their time.

I'm not going to say I'm an expert on Japanese story games, I am not, there are games I want to read but have not, even pretty common games, like ef. I am just fan. I will still say with no doubt that I have read more games then 90% of current /jp/.

It means a VN that is often read by someone with no experience in the genre, as their first. Obviously something that's been around a while is going to be used for this purpose more often than something that was translated relatively recently, though both are probably fairly friendly to newcomers. But really, there are very few VNs that require much "experience" to enjoy properly. The only one that really jumps into my head immediately is probably Cross Channel, because it has a tendency to bore the shit out of some people. As far as translated ones go, anyway.
