Wind wasn't too bad. The problem was that most of the game was a four-route leadup to the final route, which was perfectly decent. The story was mostly just badly told, especially with the Fujimiya sisters' routes.

What counts as a visual novel?

With loose classification, first was Tokimeki Check In, mostly because of that "Rape/Don't Rape" screenshot. Next was Season of Sakura because people rightly called it a classic, and it's still my favorite eroge. DiviDead was my first plot focused game, and Tsukihime was first unambiguously classified as "visual novel" (with text overlaying the picture not in a box under it).
