Angel Beats is Maeda pulling his usual OH SO TRAGIC bullshit, with added shitty animation and chumped character designs. The setting's been done before many times, done better, and without the need for YET ANOTHER fucking Japanese high school as a backdrop (hello Haibane Renmei). The characters are flat as anything and the fighting is awful drek.

To be honest, I was laughing the whole fucking time. And I broke out into hysterics when Otonashi fucking cried like the bitch he is at Kanade disappearing. This has been the greatest train wreck of a show I wasted approximately six hours on. Six fucking hours with the only decent character that wasn't intentionally a joke disappearing by episode three. Six fucking hours of dissociative plot development, improperly introduced characters, and horrible comedic timing that I can never get back other than through laughing fruitlessly at the absurdity of it all and knowing that /a/ will gobble this shit up like the coprophiliacs you are.

Angel Beats! in the end is like TK, but without any of the amusing non-sequitur english.

Maeda is a faggot.

He had a support system around his ass for Angel Beats unlike any other and he still fucked it up because his vision was retarded and it would be just as retarded if the show were 26 episodes long, there would just be more filler.

With how Angel Beats was actually handled, I'm fully convinced they would have just pissed those extra 10 episodes away on pointless filler and just rushed the ending with the last three. Shit was doomed from the start.

A higher episode count wouldn't have saved this shit, not with how shitty the actual pacing was in this show. Never once it felt like whoever the fuck was in charge was working around a time constraint, as far as rolling the story out went.

They just dragged their asses and threw a shitty ending together at the last minute. The worst part about it is they knew they had a limited amount of episodes planned, but still fucked things up, when they could have easily cut out the unnecessary bullshit and ended the final episode on the strong note -- at least, so the series could garnish enough fan-demand for an OVA, movie or second series.

This entire series was shit from the get go. You people should have realized it the you got Yuri's sob story in EPISODE 2. Mother fucking episode 2 for gods sake. An important character like her should have had her back story reserved near the end when she finally became relevant instead of being another bitchy character.

Let's also not forget some cop out in the last episode such as how that guy that got turned into an npc we learned in one sentence that he turned out to be fine and regained himself again. I mean wtf is this shit.

Also, we still don't know half of the casts back story and some of the characters were just plain useless. I don't mean like teehee useless. I mean literally fucking useless like those band members. What the fuck was the point of making them characters instead of just filler background characters.

Oh and do not get me started on Otonashi's sudden confession to Kanade. I mean, there was literally no chemistry not even one of those sappy eye look things. You know what I'm talking about those close up eye look when love happens.

Then to make it worse a bomb shell that was seen a mile awhile about Otonashi's heart and that Kanede wants to leave, but Otonashi goes all emo even going to far as to scream KAAAAAEEEEEEDDDDDEEEEEE. God for a moment I thought I was watching shitnuyasha.

Not only was the scene corny but they just had to rip it off from another corny movie. You know what I'm talking about. That's right, Star Wars episode 3 the part near the end. When Vader learns he killed Padme and he screams NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It's sad when that is the first thing that came to my mind watching Otanshi bawwwwww.

I'd rather watch .hack//sign than this shitfest. Least in .hack//sign there is actual character development even if it's the most boring anime in the whole anime history.

At least half of the show was filler. Half the cast was wholly unnecessary and forgettable, and the main plot was barely advanced by having episodes devoted to them.

The pacing was abysmal and it was the worst part. The first episode starts in media res and then quickly reveals that their battle is absolutely pointless. Then almost every subsequent episode is the standard Key bullshit with mood shattering forced moe/forced zany shenanigans humor put in at the worst possible moments. Up until Yui dies, then the show suddenly gains a plot, but it's just trainwreck after trainwreck of illogical revelations and and poorly explained shit happening, until the ending, which was painfully slow and shitty.

The sad thing is that both the episodic bawww episodes and the terribly paced conclusion were "part of the main plot" of the series, because in the end it's just another overly long moralistic Key fable about the importance of life or some old bullshit, but the character episodes were just the same Key formula with nothing new added to them and the characters usually did not have any development until their episode. The endgame of the show was too stupid to take seriously.

Show fails on all levels.

This show has the shittiest concept of mood ever. The last episode was so cheesy that there was no way it could make anyone feel sad, but then in the middle of every serious "sad" part everyone would burst out randomly into some fast-paced "comedy" part and the mood would completely change for 10 seconds, and then change back. This happened 3 or 4 times. It was fucking retarded.

I wish I could spit on Maeda.

Most of the faults would be resolved by taking use of a medium that the author actually can write for. But I guess /jp/ will still hate it even if it turns out much better, since it's Key and because it will forever be associated with /a/. For the people who demand an in-depth explanation as to why the pacing was bad:

The show had no direction. There were several times where it felt like it was going to start going into a certain subplot or storyline, but it completely fizzled out within one episode, leaving me wondering what the purpose was.

First, Iwasawa disappears. It looks like the plot will be about the characters disappearing and coming to terms with their lives! Nope. The concept doesn't really get touched on again until it suddenly becomes a huge factor in the plot starting in episode 10, rushing to make everyone in this gigantic cast disappear in a few episodes.

Naoi shows up! It looks like we have some kind of villain to be in conflict with! Nope. Subplot resolved within half an episode, and he is welcomed with open arms into the SSS.

Evil Tenshi shows up! NOW we have some kind of villain to defeat! Nope, she goes away at the end of the episode and leaves zero lasting impact.

Now we have to make everyone disappear in a few episodes, without time to explore any of the minor characters or to actually explain what the hell the nature of this world is.

Honestly, I would've rather had a totally episodic show with one disappearance per episode instead of this mess we got. At least the former would have some kind of purpose it sets out to fulfill.

The overall story does not have to be short. It just has to be there and consistent. Angel Beats has almost no story for 10 episodes. Think about that. It has a theme, but no actual story happening for 10 episodes. And then it just all hits at once like a wave of shitty, horrible story.

And filler is not inherently shitty. But when half of your show is basically forced drama filler, that is mega shitty.

Pacing was all over the place, nearly the whole middle part (8 episodes or so) were completely pointless and ultimately contributing very little to the story, and yet they still somehow managed to leave plotholes the size of Kanade's gaping vagina.

Score sucked too, aside for a couple of themes.
