I'm a huge Gundam (well, mostly UC) fag. From what I can tell there are a few people around here who are into it too but rarely discuss it as that belongs to /m/.

On that note, even Usso didn't whine as much as Kamille did. And when he did it was understandable as he's only a 13 year old boy while the things he went through were even more depressing. What I really liked about Kamille is when he goes rage mode and wrecks shit up while saying something badass. Like when he wants to talk to Reccoa about defecting and some Hizack comes along. He just kicks it the shit away and screams "Shut up and fuck off!" (sounds cooler in Japanese) like it's just some flea (and to him it is). The nice music also really helped during the battles. But Kamille DID get slapped around a lot. Especially by Emma. Seeing Judeau kicking the shit out of that Wang faggot felt really good and satisfying even though Wang isn't actually that bad of a guy.

I agree. Most people seem to hate ZZ and anything related to it because of the way it makes fun of itself and Gundam as a whole. The ZZ Gundam itself was hilariously overpowered and some enemy pilots even comment on it. I can see where they're coming from because some of it in the first 20 episodes is really silly (if funny if you're into that kind of humor). But there was also a lot of genuinely good stuff in there, mostly the characters and suit designs.
I also really liked the part where Judeau piloted together with Puru in the desert arc.

At least Jerid is at least not totally batshit like Chara. Causing a civilian girl to lose both of her eye is not something you want to happen on your ship. If anything the events leading up to that are stupid with Chara doing laundry and stuff. Although in a real war most people might not care about some random girl and would just shoot Chara in the face, I don't know.
Speaking of Jerid, Tomino must have really hated him. The way he treated Jerid was really cruel at times. He had to endure one loss after another, both in battles as well as people he cares about getting killed and then the way he died... I felt he was a really tragic character. Worse than Kamille himself because he at least realizes that holding on to grudges doesn't get you anywhere and in Jerid's case killed.

Gundam is ingrained in Otaku Culture and always will be. I have no problem with Gundam being talked about on /jp/ but we have a board for it already.

Also, yes I really like Gundam. Got introduced to it by Gundam Wing back in the early days of Toonami. Went back and watched Mobile Suit Gundam and Char's counterattack.

I'm no expert on the series but I like it. My favorite Gundam to this day is Wing Zero Custom.

ZZ was shit for many reasons:
1, Judau was a faggot. He lied to Puru many times and was a hypocritical moron. I've never hated a main character so much as him.
2, The series went nearly crap after they dropped the comical approach. The comical and the serious tone seemed totally balanced, why the fuck they had to wrote out one of the most interesting characters without any explanation whatsoever?

I was referring to Chara's sidekick, Gott or whatever he was called. The dude got some serious brains. He maintained a fairly successful resistance with barely any resources while piggybacking a clueless Chara Soon, who just fucked things up. He and his bunch were funny guys, the main gag elements in the first half. Then they suddenly blow up and never get mentioned again, at least I don't remember them being mentioned.

I would recommend starting with the movie versions of MSG. It cuts out lot of crap that sucked and adds some new animation. It's also canon. Although the TV version isn't bad by any means, the age shows. After you got that down you can watch all the OVA side stories (except Unicorn) if you want. 8th MS Team is pretty good and 0083 has fantastic action and a decent soundtrack. Zeta is also worth a try. Many regard it as one of the finest Gundam series.

Well, compared to the Gaplant it's certainly under performing. It had some cool gadgets but other than that it was just what you'd expect of a standard mobile suit of that time with an interesting look. But the Gaplant was actually on par with the Zeta and in some areas actually better.

It DID suck fuel like a whore though which is why they had to built an optional booster for traveling long distances.
