The point, however, is to have an original. The majority of my audio collection (that I listen to) is .mp3, however some programs I use require .wav and occasionally I may try and import something into one of my various projects using .ogg.

Now, having the flac I'm able to do
flac > wav
flac > mp3
flac > ogg
and I lose nothing past what the standard compression loses me - which is inaudible anyway.

However, trying to do something like:
mp3 > ogg
will cause a noticeable distortion - which is why transcoding between compressed audio formats is highly discouraged. It's the copy-of-a-copy problem, it degrades each time.

I'm sorry if you don't have the bandwidth or storage capacity to support the files you want, you might consider downloading them one album at a time and converting them to mp3 yourself. Flicflac is a wonderful tool for that, and doesn't require any sort of installation:

or, I'm sure someone will eventually release the albums in an mp3.

In the end though, there's really no reason not to use .flac. Why wouldn't you want the highest quality available? It's easy to go down (mp3), but you can't go back up again.

Yeah, you're right about everything. I don't complain if things are also released in MP3, the problem are FLAC guys who look down on people who listens on MP3, and some even don't release on MP3 (or any other compressed format like OGG) at all. Also

1. Not everyone has fast internet and/or wants to spend 3 times more the time to download something that will sound the same
2. Not everyone has big hard disks
3. Not everyone wants to spend time transcoding, most usually don't so they end up filling their hard disks 3 times earlier, not to mention some countries with shitty internet have transfer caps
4. Finally, we're getting the material for free. If you really want to hear the source material you should buy the album and support the artist

Understandable, but remember these albums are being ripped for the first time right now. We're not even talking days yet, just hours since they've been obtained. It's going to take a little time before someone is able to transcode them into other formats.

As far as intentionally distributing a compressed format with the reasoning that if we want lossless we can buy the originals - remember where this is coming from, a lot of this stuff simply isn't available to most of us currently.

Just be patient, the lossy rips will be here soon enough - or, if bandwidth isn't a problem for you, I urge you to try transcoding with the utility I posted. It might prove to be much quicker than you thought. (Drag & Drop whatever files you desire to have transcoded, browse /jp/ for a few minutes, and you'll have your files before you know it. It can even delete the original .flac for you, if you don't want them anymore.)

No no, I think .flac will suffice. As I stated earlier, not much point in attempting to encode to something higher than your source.

Besides, I tend to prefer .flac over .wav simply for the fact that I know what format .flac is in, but I don't necessarily know what's in the .wav container. Might even be compressed, even if it is running at a higher bitrate than any of our soundcards support.

There's quite a few issues for me on this one (btw, I'm using Windows XP, not Windows 7, so you might not have these issues).
The setup won't launch if it's inside a folder that has japanese characters in it, and in order to launch the game after it's installed, I had to go to the installation folder and remove the '不思議・' text from pretty much all the files in it.

I've managed to solve those 2 problems, now the only problem left is that the game is configured to play with a joypad by default, and I can't see anything to change it in the options. I'd really appreciate it if someone could post a solution for this.

Lost Child is probably my leading favorite out of this year's batch atm.

aki did very well, as well, but I just love the lilting effect behind mei's voice when she hits the higher notes.

As to the Trois albums, Noir, Bleu, Rouge imo.
redalice had a few okay songs on rouge, but my overall impression was ~meh. He fared better on the Tano*C release I think. Alstroemeria had another strong album. I think they could have dropped track 02 and just gone with the redalice remix of it (track 10), but overall very pleased with that purchase. I love how they're gradually extending the sample in the intro song. It's the same one as used in Plastik World and of Memories maybe. Sound Online was pleasant enough. Have to listen through it again, but it wasn't bad.

I ranked the Trois Ensemble Bleu > Noir > Rouge. REDALiCE's House is starting to sound too samey for my tastes. I did like some tracks though (Selfish, Nightmare before xx). Masayoshi Minoshima's house stuff on the other hand remains new and fresh sounding with a lot of variety even after 30 albums. I really liked Plastik Mind but was dissapointed by Captain Murasa, I felt the intro was built up well but the chorus and rest of the song didn't have much of an impact. I also felt that Tsukasa's remix of End of Daylight, though good, didn't live up to the original. I liked Bleu the most because even though there was no obvious stand out excellent track (the first track was an excellent D&B type track but too short) I like the album more as a whole. The only real downside was REDALiCE's instrumental track on it but his remix made up for it.

tl;dr Bleu > Noir > Rouge but all were good and I got what I was expecting

If you're using mp3, mojibake happens mostly with ID3v1 or SJIS. Make sure that you're using ID3v2 and UTF-8 or UTF-16. If you're using OGG or FLAC, you should have no problems with encoding.

Ripping with EAC, but was viewing in foobar. I usually use v0.9.4.5 for playback (since it still plays tta/cue), but I checked it in 1.1.1 as well just in case, and it was a silly mistake on my part unrelated to either of those.
