Why is it that Japanese students study so hard and yet don't have good universities? I mean, I know somebody who's going to Harvard who is lazy as fuck- 16 schools ahead of Japans #1 university. Source:

Okay, just for comparison, what level math do Japanese students take their last year of high school?

Japanese studying is like dog learns to meditate; it look like but truth is they tricks.

Because japanese schools require you to memorize facts and perform perfectly in multiple choice exams to enter them. Whereas an Ivy League school will require much more than memorizing the accepted answer to a question that should probably be in essay format and not multiple choice.

University is pretty much a blow-off for Japs. It's about partying and having sex. Like High School in America.
Everything before university is total hell so I don't envy them much.

This
In america, the public school system is so bad that universities make sure to work you to death once you're in em.

Japanese schools are actually pretty good, so once you're in the university you've already done your share. That and career options in japan suck, so universities are merely a intermediate step to SARAYMANSHIP

It's true. No other test format besides multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank exists in Japan.

>> No.671159

Japanese schools being good and working the kids hard is a big lie. They don't have to do ANY work, because the teachers don't say anything if they don't. Pretty much the only hard part about schooling in Japan is taking the test to get into university.

As someone who has the opportunity to work with a variety of foreign students who've come to America to earn their doctorate...
Asian students invariably come in with near reflexive memorization and mastery of the basics. You can give them any number of clear cut problems to solve in as little time as possible and they'll do it. But if you give them any type of creative freedom or ask them to solve anything with gray area and they will choke. Have them manage a project, and they will choke. Japanese are a lot better than Chinese. Too much focus on intelligence, not enough focus on wisdom.

>> No.671233

actually all the top japanese universities are just like the ivy league schools, the hard work is getting into them, then you can usually fuck off and all the benefits come from making connections

>> No.671995

You know that you can study as much as you like if you don't have what it takes to be a genius or even an intellectual human ( IQ >> 130).

>because the teachers don't say anything if they don't

you mean like every school in the world?

>> No.672018

>>671209
That is a product of there being too much emphasis on rote learning and not enough on developing creative thought in many Asian learning institutions.

>> No.672036

Perhaps the Japanese are intellectually challenged? Is that the point the thread is trying to make?

>> No.672039

>>672036
The point of the thread is to sit back and laugh at the pathetic Americans desperately trying to make their education system look superior to another countries, all while being a big troll at the same time.
