Beating an Extra boss, doing a 1CC for the first time and doing a Lunatic clear for the first time bring me huge euphoric rushes unlike any other I've known.

I consider myself pretty bad at Touhou and so doing any of these things is a huge accomplishment for me.

Got to the card where koishi flies around the screen shooting interwining bullets.. furthest yet

Got past super-ego without dying then lost 4 lives on the subsequent card. How does that one work? From the replay it looks like the bullets follow you but for me it just goes on its own and cuts off my path.. can't get the openings big enough either.

Haha, it's a nice feeling, especially when you're still pretty new to shooting games. The first time I ever cleared an Extra stage, the rush was just wonderful. It isn't as great subsequent times, but it's still a pretty satisfying feeling.

I'm working on 1cc Ketsui right now, and I have a feeling it's going to be quite nice. I think my heart might explode if I made it to Ura loop.

You're talking about Youkai Polygraph, right? The trick is to "jump" quickly to make a big enough opening without ramming into a laser. Try watching a replay, it's really one of her easier attacks once you get it down, unlike Genetics which is just a clusterfuck every time.

2 problems:
the openings don't end up being as big as I expected
and in the replay the bullets that form are more compact and form in the direction the shooter moves, but when I'm doing it, it just goes off on its own i'll be creeping slowly to the right when it starts but then the bullet's going off diagonally to the upper right.. i get the theory, but it just doesn't work out as i expected agh i guess i just gotta go back and practice

If the openings aren't big enough then you aren't moving quickly enough. You need to unfocus quickly, move, and then refocus to make it through the gap, all in the space of about 1 second. It sounds tough but once you get used to it, it comes pretty naturally.

Youkai Polygraph is one of her easier cards. The bullets form at the same distance from the boss as you, so if you move further out, the bullets will be further apart.
Her survival card is much harder in my opinion. The last card is only hard because I have barely any shot power left by that point.

The bullets start out slowly, so it might be a good idea to start that card near her, and unfocus move out for a better gap. If you don't remember to do that (I never did...) it's doable, though.
Be sure to think radially, not vertically. If you move flat left and right, the bullets will inch out closely, so you have to dash towards and away from her to spread them far enough to comfortably dodge.

I love SA, but it has me cursed. I do well enough when I'm just futzing around, but when I sit down intending to 1CC it, it curses my fingers into making derptastic mistakes that bork me down the road. Or I just lack the patience to keep re-doing the first 3 stages over and over, even though I never die or bomb on any of 'em.

Still love Koishi, though. Someday she'll be my 4th extra kill.

The other PC extras are easier, which other ones are you missing?
It took me a couple of days to get SA's extra, other extras were usually only a day or two.
Even UFO with the silly UFO mechanic, Kogasa's third card (which wasn't that bad in later attempts) and the damn rainbow UFO spellcard was easier.

I just don't personally care for PCB or UFO. I'm very confident I could take down Ran and Yukari if I sat down and went for it one day, but... I really just don't care. Flan was my first, Suwako second, and Mokou a triumphant third.
Lately I've been giving a shot to LLS and MS. Feels pretty good, despite my suckage.

Personally I like PCB quite a lot. I like the simplicity of the life system, plus most of the shot types feel nice (except Sakuya B, I think)
I beat Mokou first, then Suwako, followed by Ran. After that was either Yukari or Flan, I'm not sure the order I beat them in. Then was Koishi and her goddamn survival card, and then finally Nue with her incredibly easy survival card.
I'd beaten 3 or 4 extra stages before I even 1CC'd EoSD, but after that Flan was pretty easy.

and, for me, Koishi's hardest spellcards are Subconscious "Rorschach in Danmaku" and Depths "Genetics of the Subconscious"... I've got to the second one with 5 lives, and lost 3 because I'm petty-minded about using bombs.

I rarely had problems with Id or Super Ego, and I quickly got the hang of Rorsach. Genetics is touchy, but I'm alright at it, I don't have the trouble everyone else seems to have.
But the fucking survival card. The first phase is easy, but I always end up bombing through the whole second and third phases.
Subterranean Rose isn't bad, I just lack practice with it being the last card, and I have to beat the rest of the stage first.
I think at least 95% of my runs are restarted before I reach Koishi.
The other cards are pretty much trivial, as long as you don't do something stupid on Paranoia.
