In Ireland disability is the same as job seeker's allowance, which is fairly high at around 190 a week but the cost of living in Ireland even now is insanely high.

Rent for a passable place costs at least 100, plus bills.

You can get rent allowance so you only pay about 24 but places you get on that are shitholes, I was lucky enough to get on a new scheme.

The ordinary person can survive fine but if you really do have a mental illness you will end up having to pay lots of money to private health professionals since our health service is shit.

Actually it's the other way around to what you say, Autism is actually more severe than most physical disabilities, people don't get this. If you're in a wheelchair, if you have wheelchair access that's not really debilitating to performing most office jobs.

Some people with autism or even just aspergers simply can't handle a working environment or working routine at all. Just because many high functionings can hold down jobs, does not mean all can, just like with any other disease not everyone has all the symptoms.

You can make accomodations for the deaf and the blind, but for autistics? If they're unable in some cases to cope with the idea of a 9 to 5 job on a basic level, or socialising, you can't really accommodate that or at least most workplaces don't want to go to the effort. It's cheaper for society to keep autistic people at home since that way they don't have to be patient with them.

People with a right wing freebertarian attitude don't get this, or don't care.
