I watched the Umineko anime when it was released. Does it leave too much out? I'm mostly asking because I want to read the Umineko VN from episode 5 on.

Is this a terrible idea? Or just a bad idea?

the anime fails to adress a lot of things, but you can probably get the gist of it even if you skip reading the first 4 episodes. That said, i recomend you read them anyway. It will avoid lots of headache. You could also read the manga if you're not the reading kind. It's a much more solid adaptation.

I saw the anime, read from 5 on... then whent back and read the first ones. They're definitly much better than the anime, but if you're impatient like me and wants to see how it goes on, reading umineko like this works too.

they've surely gotten a diferent tone, so it's understandable that some people would stop liking it. Thats really a matter of tastes, i guess. I liked umineko back at 1-4, and i like it now too, but it feels like two diferent tales.
