I've always thought about this. Imagine a fairy, let's say Cirno, getting brutally murdered. After that, imagine them respawning next to their brutally mutilated body. To see your own dead body, with its dead eyes staring back at you and its vital organs spilling out, imagine that feeling.

They don't respawn in the same location either. Or immediately.

It's probably the same effect as if you go and vaporize Mokou; they'll respawn, a bit later, in a location familiar to them.
