Guess heres best place as any to ask for a bit of help.

I've pulled the CDROM cat off of NyaaTorrents and have tried to check it out, but I'm running into the same problem I had when I tried the C77 cdrom cat.

When i install or launch from the CD, the splash screen pops up and then promptly crashes. My friend who had bought the CD had also been having the same problem. We never did figure it out and a search on JP net space didn't find any fixes that I could see. Luckily we had the physical book back then, unfortunately I don't have that now. So anyone had this issue before and know how to fix it? Region settings are set up fine for unicode etc, tried AppLocale already.

PD sucks outside of Japan. When I was in Japan and had a blazing fast connection everything downloaded fast. Usually if you dropped stuff in to download and left it going over night, half your stuff might be finished. This was a 160Mbps/20Mbps line though, so ya. Once the unity is set up, stuff goes faster. But you need to devout so much space to it though , 50-60GB of unity.

It did, but since stuff like Maou moving onto PD happened fairly recently, I guess they think something that was once secure and has been hacked is still more secure than share, which never had decent security.
Not like understanding the reason changes anything, though. Nowadays you're likely to see things being uploaded first the PD or even some random chinese forum - be it like that, we just have to check those instead of share.

From the sound of it, the selection on PD isn't any better than the selection on Share as it still gets copied over. I'm used to share so I'd prefer sticking to it, doubly so since I can't tell the goddamn filenames apart so I rely extinsively on "COMPLETE" notices in Share which naturally won't copy over to PD.

Well, I just got a new TB drive so maybe I'll try both for a month once C79 starts.

No, it's not. There's just a company that can make some guesses about the peers, but that's expected from any protocol, and there's no reason to do anything against that. They still won't be able to gurantee anything about the content held by some peer.

I think in all cases where someone was arrested for uploading stuff for PD was because he was stupid to post his uploads on 2ch using his home ip. Not even Share is truly cracked, just the insecure Turbo mode (direct transfer between peers).
