/jp/ How long does it take to learn Japanese fluently?

>> No.6615842

It depends on how much effort you put into learning it, but it generally ranges from years to decades.

how long does japan take to learn English fluently ?

>> No.6615855

Not being a prick, but 1 year for me because I am a born genius.

>> No.6615859

fluently? 4-5 years with mad effort and grinding, possibly less if you actually go to Japan to learn, more if you're lazy

It depends on how much effort you put into learning it, but it generally ranges from years to decades and even when they do speak if fluently people talking to them still need a dictionary for their accent.

I just finished learning Hiragana and Katakana in about 3 weeks. That's the shortest part. Not it's learning words and Kanji. I'll tell you when I'm finished in a few years.

How would I know? Haven't watched anime in years.

Kana is very easy to learn, just go through Heisig's book.

Kanji, a bit harder, Heisig's book isn't bad, if you do a chapter a week you'll have it done in a little under a year, if you do 2 a week successfully, then it's what, 5 months?

It doesn't take a terribly long time if you have an interest in it. It helps that there are lots of good free online resources for Japanese. I've been teaching myself for almost four years and I just took JLPT N2 last weekend. It would probably not have taken as long if I took classes or got a teacher or something either.

I am chinese, Kanj is so easy for me

Is being japanese easy for you too? Since all asians look the same?

Why would you put a question mark at the end of a sentence that wasn't a question?

>then you will not just learn Japanese, you will become Japanese

So whenever another board comes trolling us with "you will never be Japanese", they're lying? You will never be Japanese ;_;

Four years?! That's a long time!

>> No.6617675

It's entirely dependent on your effort. Don't just focus on studying, although it is important in the beginning. You need to be reading or conversing in Japanese as much as possible to really get a feel for it and quickly improve.
