http://www.siliconera.com/2010/12/08/umineko-no-naku-koro-ni-playstation-3-producer-confirms-sequel/

>The PlayStation 3 was chosen as the console for development as Alchemist wanted to create the best-looking visual novel on the highest-spec machine possible. One fan asked just what the point of this game was, to which Nakagawa amusingly replied, “Frankly? To produce it for the PS3.”

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkYtnVfw--c

Anyone interested to push AKSYS to localize/publish a translated PS3 version?

I like this man's reasoning.

Who knows, maybe this will be a turning point for Visual Novels, so stop being such an amateurish low budget medium.

>> No.6592122

They really should've hired better artists, then. Save for it being Umineko, graphic it looks to be a rather generic VN.

That might not be too far from the truth, since seemingly everyone has shitty computers in Japan.

>> No.6592149

I doubt this will work, you guys are better off learning japanese if you want this so much.

Umineko may seem like a popular serie on the internet but irl any console game that isn't CoD or Guitar Heroes is seen as obscure so imagine how a console VN would be received in the west.

It better be fucking 1920×1080 native pictures and background or there no POINT to it.

Make your own port.
PS3 is already cracked enough to you can decrypt SELFs and run your own unsigned code, so someone could try to transfer the PC translation to PS3, however I think the likelyhood of this happening is not much higher than most PS2 translation projects, so pushing for an official license may be less effort, not to mention that umineko has the potential of being popular enough.

It does.

And yes, we should probably be pushing Arksys to publish this. After the pleasant surprise from 999, they might be open to the possibility. Next best bet is probably... Atlus maybe. What's important is that Arksys, or whoever we bug to localize this, sees a solid front of people expressing an interest in buying this game. Meaning we'll have to not only send them mail ourselves, we'll have to get other relevant boards/sites to do the same to create enough of a groundswell to push this through.

Well, this isn't even out in Japan yet. But barring it somehow being a terrible conversion, or some other unforeseen disasters, I think it's pretty safe to start campaigning in the near future. I'll probably shoot an email out Arksys way in the next few weeks just to see what the reaction is.

There are people that ripped of the graphics and suchs from the Higurashi PS2 remake and putted it as a PC patch.

Most likely so will people do it for Umineko too. Except that I believe ripping the PS3 is a bit harder.

Assumedly the redone version of Amagami that's coming out soon will, as the original Amagami did.

The sprites aren't going to be the issue here. The voices, animations and effects will be. The amount of effort required to transition all that over to the PC version will be pretty herculean. Possible, sure, but compared to the work done on Higurashi or F/SN's PS2 to PC conversions, this is going to be many levels of complexity higher. Even the sprites are animated.

I have a difficult time believing that ANYone is crazy enough to attempt it. And a harder time believing they'll pull it off.

I still wonder who threw them this idea. It's terrible. The only good part about it still is the voices... Also that fucking number you can see on the Gold in the CG:

Oh god, the special effects look like ass too.
I can forgive shoddy animation and shitty looking effects with low res, but at 1920×1080 there's no excuse...and at that resolution it just makes it look even more awkward/terrible.
Well, other than the excuse of being too lazy/not paying to draw proper animations at that resolution.

I hope there's an option to just disable all animations and effects.

Also, Disgaea Infinite for animation comparison.

I'm speaking from 300+ hours of playing iM@S. The communication events are a requirement for memories which help during auditions.

But more importantly 11eyes, Tatuyama, Clannad, Time Leap, Memories Off t-wave, Memories Off NR, Sharin no Kuni, W.L.O, No Fate!, and a bunch more visual novels are all on 360.

I don't know why they bothered with PS3. Achievement hunters won't bother... and it's not as if the PS3 has any advantage over the 360 in terms of a visual novel.
