Hey /jp/, /k/fag here again.

I got some better pics of the letters, hoping for a successful translation today.

Thanks in advance, /jp/.

P.S. Sorry it's a bit dark, but with the flash on it just screwed up the entire pic.

since you took the pics in the dark, the images are really grainy so a lot can't been seen clearly. you need to go back and take them again.

To Tako-chan:
The letter you sent me on the 6th of January was written very well.
There were lots of difficult words I didn't think you'd know, and I was very surprised. Words like (list of several words with oh god this is a ten-year-old girl? WHO CAN WRITE GEKIMETSU IN KANJI?)
Do you understand what they all mean? If you do, you've grown a lot more clever while daddy wasn't around. Daddy's very happy.
Some of the words in the letter were wrong, though: (Several words that the girl got wrong follow, the ones with the crosses are the ones she got wrong, the one with circles are what they should be)
It's also gotten cold in the mornings and nights here, but I can still wear my summer clothes. The flora is beautiful and (end of this page)

Hey, this isn't a continuation of the previous letter, it's a new one entirely.

Anyway.

Tako-chan! How are you? Daddy's fine.

There were two air raids last night right after I slept and at dawn, but I had an odd dream. You got out of the bath and were crying, and when I asked you "Why are you crying? Was the bath too hot?", mommy suddenly showed up laughing, and said that "she probably wants something sweet" and gave you some milk to drink and then both of you lay down, and you looked very happy. And then your sister came and said "Tako-chan still drinks milk?", and poked at your cheek. That was all, but daddy saw all of your faces very well, and it was just like being able to meet you. Interesting dream, right?
There are many air raids here.Nowadays even the inner lands may get attacked, but where you are out in the country is safe. It's still hot here, but it's already getting cooler over there, isn't it?
Tako-chan! The coldness of (place name I'm not familiar with, sorry) is, compared to Tokyo, (page ends here)

I wasn't quite sure how to capture the nuances of the way things were said, so I left it out, but the drinking of milk here refers to breastfeeding (unless breasts were synonymous with milk back then).

>> No.658579

>>658561

Yeah, sorry about that, I couldn't find the entire letter packages.

So they're both to Takako (Tako-chan)? Awesome! Thanks for your help!

>> No.658581

what word did he use for it?

>> No.658611

"Ochichi", and the sister uses "oppai", but once again I've heard that breasts were synonymous with milk back then, and the sister literally says "drink oppai" so I'm assuming what I heard was right.

>> No.658736

In all seriousness, though, /jp/ seems like a really lousy place to ask for help on Japanese, let alone classical Japanese.

>> No.658765

>>658736

The asking for help part, yeah. But we do have plenty of people that know Japanese to varying degrees. I'd wager more than /m/, and probably more than /a/ despite their much bigger userbase because I don't think anyone capable of sitting still long enough to learn a second language could possibly stand /a/'s current incarnation.

>> No.658767

>>658736
It still doesn't mean /m/ would be better. Some random /m/an just decided to translate these, I'm sure a /jp/sy would do just as good of a job. The majority of /m/ only care about HOT BLOOD and gunpla.

>> No.658782

>>658765
Really? /m/ has people reading and translating Japanese technobabble (I just saw a moustache Gundam thread with entire Wikipedia articles with lingo about degeneracy reactors and resonating particles and god-knows-what translated), and the "let's speak Japanese" threads seem to be filled with JLPT3 students.

But yeah, /a/'s the worst of the lot, no doubts about that.

/jp/ does the same thing. I mean just last week, a local tripfriend translated a touhou /h/ doujin!

/m/ has, on the whole, much better PEOPLE. A lot of the dudes who know moonspeak here don't feel like doing anything for anyone, they just want to read the shit themselves and occasionally pretend to be Japanese and troll the fake Korean guy. A few are working on translations but keeping it quiet, though. I love those guys.

I don't know, man. I like /m/ and all but it has some really shitty tripfags. /m/ anon is good though. I think /jp/ has some of the best tripfags and anon. It reminds me of /a/ before it was shit. Not like I'm judging an imageboard's community by their tripfags or anything though.
