I thought it was alt.
Ben Folds, Death Cab for Cutie/Postal service The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Cake etc.

It's alright to listen to indie alt rock because you enjoy the sound (Like Postal Service and CAKE as well), but not just because they're indie. That's where the hipster line is drawn.

I dunno, I like said alt rock, Pixies, Radiohead, Daft Punk, UNKLE, that sort of stuff. Basically anything that catches my interest and warrants some loop playbacks.
Currently going through Machinae Supremacy. I like some metal, I love chiptunes, it really comes well together.

Yeah but non-metal fans/hipster Fags/mainstreamfags lump it all together. They cant tell the difference from blind guardian and hammerfall.

Try that album I just posted. Josh Homme from QOTSA came from Kyuss.

And Kyuss is superior, I think, to QOTSA.

Give it a whirl. It's pretty fantastic.

Also try out Sleep, Pentagram (their older stuff especially,) and Brant Bjork.

Hell, all the Palm Desert scene stuff is pretty great.

Electronic... not typical trance/Eurobeat/dance music though. I lean much more towards ambient and experimental music, such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada etc. I like it so much so that for several years as a side hobby I've also been making my own music on and off in a similar vein to what I just described.

Other than that, I have a somewhat diverse library. I generally like a lot of 80s music, and also 80s/early-mid 90s metal.

While I do very much enjoy new wave type stuff, I also like bands from various eras that are fairly hard to avoid enjoying, such as The Police, Simon and Garfunkel, Genesis, Styx etc.

>> No.6553585

Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Menomena, and the Flaming Lips are some of my favorite bands, so it's obvious I love the indieshit but I'm also completely in love with a wide spectrum of hip-hop. I also like some hard rock, various electronica, and a few scattered acts from other genres.

Also, some Japanese music I don't really lump together with just "Japanese music." Stuff like Ogre You Asshole and World's End Girlfriend I'd group with any other band or musician I like.

And just for fun: An American band with a Japanese singer doing a Spanish song.

I don't listen to Japanese music at all... OK well maybe that's not 100% true... I occasionally listen to Yoko Shimomura and Yasunori Mitsuda, but that's it.

I generally listen to music no one gives a shit about anymore.... Front Line Assembly, Wumpscut, Icon of Coil, Velvet Acid Christ, Combichrist, VNV Nation... Stuff like that.

Shit was pretty popular when I was in college back in the mid 90s... Shit I hate being old.

I don't really listen to Japanese music, actually. I just listen to anything I heard and if I like it, I go download it and put it in my music folder regardless of genre or country of origin.

>>6553581 here

I was EXACTLY like you a couple of years ago. I have near-complete discographies of most of what you just named (besides Icon of Coil).

In fact, it was single-handedly this kind of music that branched me out into electronic music. Over the years, I realized more and more that I cared FAR more about the synthesis and interesting rhythms in these groups' tracks than I did the scratchy lyrics (Suicide Commando has an especially aggressive sound to it).

I don't even mention that I like Darkwave, EBM etc anymore these days, though, since I'm afraid people would just dismiss it as shitty goth music. Same reason why I usually never talk about Japanese music outside of /jp/.

Nirvana isn't my favorite band either, far from it. They were just so, so fucking good.. and fit certain moods for me better than is describable with words.
