I watched the anime and that's about it. Art for the vn is pretty horrible so did not bother with it. And yeah I know there are patches for that but no thanks.

The games elaborate on what happens much better than the anime, due to DEEN generally fucking up anything they touch.
If you want to enjoy whatever you liked about Higurashi without most of the plotholes (unless you like the plotholes, that is), suck it up and play the games.
And after a while, the art starts to grow on you.

The anime was a pretty good adaptation. Deen only really fucked up with adapting episodes 6, 7 and 8. Those are probably the most important episodes, but oh well.

I have Higurashi Rei on hold. I got near scene of 5th scenario where Mion lead Shion to torture room. I don't feel like playing it now.

Speaking of first Higurashi VN, i was okay with it, but i would still put some time spend in after school club away.
