Protestants are Christians. Are you thinking of Catholics?

>> No.6507089

We don't care about the background of holidays, we just like spending time with our loved ones. Surely you can understand that.

Arriving in Massachusetts in late November, the Pilgrims sought a suitable landing place. On December 11, just before disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they signed the "Mayflower Compact" - America's first document of civil government and the first to introduce self-government.

Pumpkins. Photo copyrighted. After a prayer service, the Pilgrims began building hasty shelters. However, unprepared for the starvation and sickness of a harsh New England winter, nearly half died before spring. Yet, persevering in prayer, and assisted by helpful Indians, they reaped a bountiful harvest the following summer.

The grateful Pilgrims then declared a three-day feast, starting on December 13, 1621, to thank God and to celebrate with their Indian friends. While this was not the first Thanksgiving in America (thanksgiving services were held in Virginia as early as 1607), it was America's first Thanksgiving Festival.

An actually 100% christian holiday. Nevermind that it is recent.

Xmas is pagan though. Jesus was supposed to be born in summer, not winter.

Because it was originally an Indian tradition, you dumbfuck.

The Japanese celebrate Christmas.
Holidays aren't about religion, they're about getting drunk and eating good food instead of working.

Thanksgiving is celebrating by stuffing your face and then getting ready for the biggest shopping binge of the year.

It's gotten USA written all over it.

Native Americans celebrated the survival of the European pilgrims even before the pilgrims came to America?

Did they have a time machine or something?

Yes, I know about the harvest festival, but EVERY agricultural society in history has celebrated that. Attributing such a generic holiday to one group is ridiculous.

I would say it's the intent of the ritual that makes it what it is, not the origin. Even if Thanksgiving was originally a ritual to slaughter white babies and offer their souls to the demon lord, that would have nothing to do with what it is today. Ceremony with form and no intended meaning is hardly ceremony at all.
