Recettear is now so cheap even I could buy it. Until the 29th of November it's $5.

If you don't own it yet, go buy it!

I don't buy games because I'm a piratefag.

We've already discussed the topic of whether or not to buy this version of Recettear to death before, during and after it was released.

But $5 is practically giving it away for free. So even if you've pirated it you could purchase it for $5 like I did.

The supply side is more than welcome to stop supplying if they don't like piracy. Money is scarce, bits are not.

Recettear is doing pretty good, but I'm not about to go and drop some of my own money just because someone asked me nicely to.

I'm not gonna sit here and try to force you guys to buy it but don't kick, scream and cry when this is the first and last game they localize.

That's my two cents.

Dead people can't buy games.
We are practically dead to society, so I don't I see the problem with piracy. It's not like the buyfags are gonna have less games if we pirate.

Countless other games have been localized before it.

Others have been localized since, and projects are still underway.

>That's my two cents.
Nobody cares; fans translate games for themselves all the time. Recettear on steam couldn't have possibly failed to make a profit because there was near-zero investment involved and it sold plenty of copies.

>> No.6507165

Like I say in every other thread about piracy; there is ONE and ONLY one way to prevent it:

Don't publish your game.

If it is purchased, it will be pirated. If it is purchased a lot, it will be pirated a lot. Piracy isn't some kind of chaotic weapon that causes some games to fail while plenty of others succeed. The most popular games in sales will be the most popular in piracy while the least popular games will have fewer pirate copies because nobody cares about them.

Go sell hotdogs for a living if you want a product that can't be duplicated.

>>6507142
Has been brought up before, "Buy this and we'll get more games translated!". At the end of the day, there were groups of people who agreed and groups of people who didn't care.

>>6507160
Is a key point. There were several arguments over the approach they took towards translating Recettear. Some people prefer a direct translation, translate everything literally. Other people prefer localization, rephrasing stuff, etc etc.

>> No.6507233

Typical anatomy of a "buy my game" thread.

1: The dev posts as anonymous and says: "Hey everybody, come buy this great game I found on the interweb today."

2: True anons chime in with: "Why would I buy a game when it's on rapidshare?"

3: Moral outrage and/or appeal to reason over piracy.

4: Nobody cares, nobody is influenced, people tell the game developer to take a hike and stop making shitty games if he is disappointed with his sales.

5: Repeat from step 3 until thread reaches autosage.

True; but anyone who really does care about piracy would have given up on preaching it to the wrong choir by now. Any time you see people defending the MAFIAA on 4chan, SA, or any similar place they are one of the following:

-Trolls.
-Shitposters trying to be trolls.
-The guy who wrote the game.

Forget pirating, I would have done that already if I wanted to play it. You'd have to pay me to waste my time on this game.

I mean moralfags still trying to change our minds are still out there, but we don't have much of chance to run into one for real... so why should I bother?

Except the translators don't even care if you pirate it at this point, they already broke even and then some.

There ARE buyfags who, like me, didn't have the money when it first came out so, like me, they bought it as soon as it hit $5 which I never would have known if someone hadn't spoken up.

Geez.

Since I've only played the demo I have plenty of questions. I think searching through the archive should answer most of them.

>> No.6507406

>>6507365
There's a difference between buyfags and moralfags.

A buyfag votes with his wallet; if he's got the money and he loves a game then he will chip in his share to nurture the developers he loves. A moralfag hangs out on forums and thunders out a whiny deluge of drama and rage at anyone who plays a game without paying for it.

I really don't have a thing against buyfags. The only thing I'd say to them is that if you're buying games made by EA and Microsoft then stop doing that and use your wallet to vote for change in the industry instead of the status quo - that's what I do, I bought minecraft and paid into small-time MMOs.
