Hide your otaku habits?

Yes [ ]
No [ ]

>> No.6458568

As a NEET, I have transcended "habits".

>> No.6458575

If by Otaku you mean Pedophilia then yes i do hide it. To many vigilantes out there.

Other than that I have no idea what the op is talking about.

>> No.6458583

Can't say I have anyone to hide things from

>> No.6458586

I think he meant to ask if you hide your powerlevel. And I don't do it because I barely have anything to show. My four gashapons are mistaken by "action figures", I'm called a little kid, and then the issue drops forever.

I hide my katana, though. Or at least, never use it in front of any guests that come around sometimes.

>otaku habits
What.

>> No.6458612

The only thing I reveal is that I can understand Japanese, and I only ever show this by reading novels. I never read manga in public and in general avoid displaying anything at all that has an "anime" art style. Hopefully this is enough to convey an interest in Japanese stuff without connecting myself with otaku or weeaboos.

>> No.6458627

My two friends know about how I'm probably the biggest weeaboo in my town. They don't care. From those that I don't know, which is about everyone ever, I do.

>> No.6458630

I think everyone just assumes I'm a little autistic.

>> No.6458648

I have almost no one to hide it from because I barely leave my house and no friends, etc, but yeah, I'm ashamed of all this shit, like anyone with half a brain would be. I try to hide my weeabooism as much as I can from my family but unfortunately it's too late for that, so technically I got no one to hide it from anymore.

>> No.6458650

All my friends are the same as me to some extend, so no I don't. I'd be laughed at. ;_;

I make no attempt to hide all but my most private matters when it pertains to 2d. The things I do hide are for good reason.

If by "hide" you mean "don't talk about" then yes. The only people I talk to are my parents anyway and it's not like they ask what I've been doing (sitting in my room all day)

Online though (in MMOs and stuff), I'm really open about being an otaku. It's great because people assume it's a joke, so I just act normally and they think I am a master of satire

>> No.6458817

These threads make me feel good. Its always nice to see how many cowards are out there, makes me feel special.

I dont hide anything. In fact I try to spread anime to everyone. I like to share things I love.

This doesnt mean i wear tacky anime shirts or merchandise or run like a ninja but its not uncommon for me to recommend anime to people or hand out Miku cds.

Everyone i know thinks otaku means naruto, so I hide the fact I like japanese stuff because they relate it right away with naruto shit.
Also, my pc files include my crossdressing pics, so I tend to hide the whole thing and never use my pc "on public". also, pedophilia is illegal, etc, etc.

>> No.6458835

What exactly are "otaku habits"?

When i talk to people long enough to reach the point where they ask about hobbies i tell them i like to watch japanese animation in original dub with english subtitles and play bullet hell shooters about little girls.

I do not mention eroge for the same reason other people don't list "watching porn" as a hobbie.

And, Yes [X].
My friends are in to Anime and Manga, though; and I've told them "I'm probably far worse than you guys". I would be just to embarrassed if people knew that I was in to otaku culture.

Those weaboos that wear cat ears and scream NYAA make me cringe. Even though I would never be as embarrassing as them, I must have projected them into myself and avoided showing my interests.

it's never worth it to reveal, especially when there are only narutofags around, and they are annoying as hell

>> No.6458954

Moderation in all things, I just match whatever they reveal. They watch anime? Discuss anime. Manga? Discuss manga. VNs? Discuss VNs. I also make sure that we're only discussing the topic they like, so secret magical girl obsessions and so on never gets around.

Similar here. I did read manga in public when my Japanese wasn't good enough for reading normal books without dictionary yet, though.
Also, my OS is in Japanese, and I generally bring my netbook to uni.
Actually, not even my mom knew that I was studying Japanese until my first shipment of books arrived from Japan (a Japanese-Japanese dictionary and a volume of manga). Not sure if she's aware that I piss away a lot of my time with anime and VNs.
I don't buy figs, wallscrolls or anime DVDs. The most powerlevel-revealing things you'll find in my room are these books/comics and a Kanji-poster that came with the dictionary.

how are those まんがわかる books, I was considering buying

>> No.6459083

I don't have anyone to reveal it to. I live with my parents but it's not something I'd share with them. That goes for people I'm forced to interact with throughout my day as well. I don't feel the need to be vocal about one of my particular hobbies, as with anything. I hate people who are loud about anything they like and make it obvious to everybody else that they are associated with whatever. If I ever get around to making friends I'd start things off slow and only reveal my true interests when I feel comfortable. Most of this "chinese girl stuff" is a major putoff to people.

>> No.6459107

I've had "otaku habits" (watching anime and playing games) since I was a babby, so how could I hide it from my family?

Good to see someone else who is in essentially the same position as I am. Is that a book on differential equations? Been thinking about grabbing some textbooks in Japanese, but never been sure about what to get. Also, where do you buy most of your books from?

yeah, it's on differential equations. I bought the one on 暗号 (cryptology) some time ago and thought it was pretty good, so I bought some more. They use lots of pictures for explaining stuff, which makes it often much easier to understand for me.
I'm sort of disappointed by the manga part though. The stories and settings are mostly centered around 萌えshit, a pity since e.g. a GitS-like setting would've been fuck-awesome for explaining cryptology and such. Then again, the one on Fourier transformations actually has more to do with playing music than K-On.
I can recommend them, but you should view those comics more as complementary stuff rather than complete textbooks that give you enough knowledge to pass a course.

>where do you buy most of your books from?
YesAsia.
Amazon.co.jp's fees for shipping to Europe are simply too high.
I've recently discovered a small Japanese bookstore in my city though. I'll check out their prices next time I need something.

>> No.6459262

...so why are we acting like this is something society's tabooing?

Yeah, I show off my powerlevel, and I talk about my interests without restraint whenever it's appropriate just like anything else.

Normalfags have tried to give me a hard time for it, but all they get in return is a raised eyebrow in disbelief of someone their age doing something so immature as to dislike on someone else's harmless interests.
