I tend to use both back and forth, they both do things that annoy me. I keep my favorites on Gelbooru and look up images on Danbooru to find translations I didn't see the first time I looked.


Danbooru:
-Tends to have better tagging, probably due to a larger community.
-Seems to be more tolerate of nice images that aren't Japanese (see below.)
-Deletes some images for no other reason that they weren't approved in 3 days.
Gelbooru:
-Has more images (because everything posted to Danbooru gets onto Gelbooru automatically.)
-Deletes images because they are "not Japanese." This includes western art styles, and images that fit in perfectly but who's artists were outed as being south American or some shit.
-Does not, on the other hand, delete images automatically for not getting mod approved. The down side of this is that there is a lot of /b/ shit spammed by fucktards which stays on Gelbooru permanently.


Use whichever one you feel like using, hop to the other if you think there is something missing (or deleted for retarded reasons.)

Deletion for mod unapproval sucks; and while there are scripts for granting full access to the contents of the site, it can proove to be a tad glitchy in action (in my experience; e.g. I've in some cases been forced to add no-no tags in order to get proper results in various searches (e.g. toddlercon + artist)).

A good advice is of course to use both as suited for oneself in respect of subjective preferences, but if you're like me and dislike having different filenames for identical images fetched from both sites - you'll ideally want to stick with one and enjoy its strenghts/avoid its weaknesses.

Danbooru Janitor here. I know quite a few others lurk /jp/ as well.

The purpose of the mod queue is to filter out shitty content and believe me when I say, we get a lot of it. While I know it can seem a bit unfair at times when a picture of your favorite Touhou or whatever gets deleted, trust me when I say the way it currently works is for the best. The alternatives would be far worse.

Regarding the hidden loli and whatnot, that's a fairly out-dated concept and I'm kinda surprised albert hasn't done away with it entirely (I doubt he makes much money off it anymore). However, paying isn't and never has been the only way to get invited. We only ask that you help out to make the site a better place. Uploading good art, doing translations, tagging and wiki editing; hell, even just spamming the forums (not literally spamming, but posting enough to make yourself stand out) with ideas and suggestions is an easy way to go about it. If you honestly care about art as more than just something to fap to it should be a relatively painless process.

I'm a janitor on danbooru, and I'll tell you now that there is no reason to use db over gb. I would not make use of db anymore if I did not have an upgraded account and an account stacked with uploads and favourites.

You will generally have more content on gb, but you will have to search through more shitty images. Yes, the community on gb is extremely shitty, but so is db's. Most of my janitoring consists of removing shitty roleplaying comments and adressing idiots who consistently upload furry or Kim Possible porn or whatever. The actual core forum-visiting community consists of autistic cunts who will argue over anything. Some of the mods have terrible attitude.

The tags on DB are better compared to gb which has retarded user-made tags like 'cute' and 'sexy'. You can use a loli script for greasemonkey on danbooru to show those posts. I don't think it's illegal because the loli hide is mainly used to 'attract advertisers'.

tl;dr if you are not going to contribute with uploads and are just going to fav shit and browse occasionally, there is no reason to visit db.
