Honestly, do any of you guys take anything more than normal?

seriously, I 've been on this shit for years and still have a hard time in most touhous on normal difficulty(around 5th stage or so)

I guess I will just assume my failureness on danmaku

Yeah, I've been poking into a few hard modes since I've beaten all the extras except Koishi.
PCB hard was beaten handily a while ago, IN wasn't too bad (had to do it to unlock Marisa's Final Word anyways), and I'm pretty close on MoF and SA.
Haven't put much effort into EoSD, but UFO hard is fucking ridiculous. Byakuren is pretty easy on Normal, but one difficulty higher and she goes into ultra-rape mode, jesus christ.

I wish. I'm too hasty to play anything other than PoFV on Normal. PoFV's lunatic mode though. My favorite touhou other than Soku.
UFO and SA kick my ass.
UFO mostly because I have an ego to uphold in a single player game and have to go for every UFO I see regardless of how dangerous it is and use Sanae A and stand directly in front of a boss as long as I can to blow them up faster.

1cc'd my first hard mode last night on PCB

I tried MoF and got to stage 3 on Hard. It's the only Touhou I managed to 1cc although I had to do it with Marisa B because I'm not so great. I can get close with Reimu A though, I can feel that 1cc coming up soon.

Have you tried using Reimu B? I think it's the best shot type in MoF (if you aren't cheating with Marisa B).

I 1cc'd MoF in Lunatic a couple of years ago with Marisa C. Beat Flandre, Yukari and Suwako and now going for UFO's Nue. I could beat each Windows game with all characters in Normal and some Hard mode, but my main focus was MoF, yeah.

After stopping playing for some times one gets pretty rusty. Takes some time to re-adapt.

I hate Subterranean Animism's ridiculous difficulty, by the way.

Hmmm, I don't know what you mean by "trolling", but sometimes SA is very... treacherous. Both stage 5 and Orin boss battle are fucking bullshit.

Utsuho's spell cards are brutal and you need to stay 100% focused on how to deal with all that shit. Maybe the fact of ZUN getting imaginative with bullet types, introducing nukes, made the thing hard to deal with.

My main issue with SA is that everyone but Reimu A sucks.

Marisa A sucks, Reimu B sucks, Reimu C is mediocre and Marisa C is FUCKING BOLLOCKS. Marisa B is pretty decent, but she has a couple of fucking useless fire types. It pissed me off how the only viable option to get past the game with a minimum security was, once again, Reimu with Miss Overpowered.

While I was able to get past my limits with MoF and beat Lunatic without continuing, I couldn't even 1cc SA in Hard; wasn't able to get past Orin's bullshitty barrages. SA overall felt very frustrating; it's a very pretty game, but I hate the design of some of the levels and sometimes the tension was unbearable. I didn't feel like that with any other Touhou game. It felt pretty unrewarding to me so I stopped playing. I even was able to get to Koishi's last spell card but didn't care anymore.

I'm liking UFO a lot more. Fighting Nue is really fun.

1cc'd all Windows games on normal, beat EoSD and PCB extras, although I don't play Touhou much anymore. Also, I've beaten EoSD Lunatic but had to use all continues. I should probably move on to hard, but I still have fun taking it easy with normal.
