>> No.6438220

I said it a few threads ago, but I'm going to throw it out there again.

We really should be using a VPN for this.

Advantages:
-Not posting your external IP on a board a few clicks away from /b/ and /g/.
-No need to port forward
-Nice list of who is connected - including chat function so that games could be arranged a bit easier
-Reduced lag (in many cases, might not help all that much depending on the situation, but it wont hurt either)

Disadvantages:
-Third party client required
-Single VPN can only host up to 16 players at once. (Solved my using multiple VPNs if necessary)
-If you foul up your security settings it's just as bad as posting your external IP

It's also slow as fuck, and people don't generally go to the IRC for 12.3 games - at least not the channel I'm thinking of.

>Better than direct connection? How?
Honestly I'm not sure exactly why, but something with the tunnel seems to improve latency much of the time. It makes no sense, but pinging to the VPNs IP on a few of my systems shows ~15-20% improved latency over pinging the external IP.

The IRC channel is #hisouten on rizon. Don't know which one you're talking about but this one has tons of active players and people to chat, at least on EU side. Lotsa idlers but you can always see who's hosting.

>Such as?
-increased delay
-third party client
-multiple channels with 16 people max
-steadily sucking on your net

If you really hate to post your IP or to forward a single port, you can still join games anyway.

>> No.6438556

Forwarding isn't an issue, but honestly there's no way in hell I'd ever post my IP here.

I can't agree with increased delay, as I've seen the exact opposite - and unless you're paying per megabyte for your net the hit there is entirely insignificant, less bandwidth per day than hitting refresh on this page once I'd guess.

The other two are valid points - but I did have the wrong channel, so I'll give that a go.

Really now, then tell me, what is my IP?

It's easily available to any machine you access. However, it isn't just floating around - and it can't be easily tied to you - not unless you give it away (or your ISP gets a court order to give it up). Even on IRC for example, using a hostmask no one aside from the server will have access to it.

Ah, no, it would help you deal some damage. Most of your attacks were the result of me flying up to you and happening to get the timing wrong. If I wanted to, I could just sit there and graze all day. Bullets are meant to cover your approach, not as a primary offense.

And once I knew you always tried to escape by flying upwards, it was easy to keep you down. Teching/escape methods have to vary.

And is there any way at all out of that lockdown? Couldn't use raiment since I wasn't guarded, and harvester/bomb both failed every time. - Or do I just have to wait for it to let up?

can't say I agree with that, really depends on who you're using. Hong for example, sure, what little range she has is only to get you closer. Patchouli, Marisa, Utsuho to a degree, etc. etc. bullets are perfectly viable as primary - even preferred I'd think.

You just have to take the beatings and learn by yourself. Watching replays of high-level players also helps quite a bit, also, spend some time in training mode to get used to the movement of your character. Please, don't let other people tell you what character to use, either. Some people will complain about everything, just ignore those people.

Reading the wiki and learning some combos/blockstrings will also help out quite a bit.

Good games, Duckator. You've skilled up quite a bit since we last played, my Suika ended up doing far better than my Meiling. I should get better against campier players, but I hate it when games drag on so long. That 3A hitbox is fucking brutal, and combined with the fact that a typical hitconfirm from it will yield around 1800, this was my face the entire match.

>> No.6446932

Good games. I never thought I'd be playing you again. Were you forcing typhoon weather when you were playing Suika? It came up so often that it couldn't have been a coincidence. Coincidence or not you reminded me why I should be afraid of Suika during typhoon.

>That 3A hitbox is fucking brutal.
It is. I'd say it's tied for second with Komachi's as the best 3A in the game. That being said, you did a great job of standing just outside its range and punishing it whenever I whiffed it.

Hahaha, I've been lurking here, waiting for you to host because I heard that you had improved quite a bit. It seems my information was correct. Yes, I admit that I forced quite a few of those typhoons, because it was the only way I felt truly safe approaching and trading due to your timeknives + 3A/623 style. I was hoping to get you with massacre once, but you pay more attention to my cards than a lot of people. Usually if I stay 2 or 3 cards away than scroll through really quick, people will block on the superflash rather than jump.

Also, those 2A whiffs into 3As that you did a lot made me sad. I'll really have to keep a note on how fast you recover from certain whiffed moves.

>> No.6446975

Feeling sick, so I may not play as many games as I usually do.

>> No.6460845

Good Games Lunachild. Outside of the huge lag spikes, those matches were rather enjoyable.

>> No.6460851

>>6460845

It was fun, less laggy than normal fortunately. I need to find big damage dealers outside of those dash attacks, for some reason they're the only way I can land powerful spellcard combos but everyone expects them after the first one.

It's such a bread and butter move.

You're charging in? 3A.
You're flying in? 3A.
You're jumping out of the corner? 3A.
You blocked my 66B/5C/whatever else? 3A.
I managed to get behind you? 3A.

Supposedly you can follow it up with a 2C but I never react fast enough to get it off or something. I know there are better things to do in a number of these situations but it's such an easy low-risk decent-reward move I just spam it all over the place.

Seriously, dude? You don't even need to hit confirm it fast enough to cancel it.

>> No.6466746

Today I learned you could cancel projectiles into things that are not supers or spellcards.

I will put this information to good use.

GGs, my execution was shit today. The only match I was close to winning with Cirno, I used Ice Tornado after my combo when I was sure I had something in hand that would combo from Icicle Sword. Not that I usually win many matches against you, but I feel like I've hit rock bottom.

Well, while Sky Dragon Kick looks impressive, it's not what it used to be. The main reason I don't use it anymore is that I got elbow'd by Youmu a bit too many times using it.

I still prefer it to the other alt 22 though but find the default move to best suit my play.

Ggs, Duck. Now the tides have been turned, and I stepped down to a new low. Although, it might be the effect of my hiatus for months and learn something.

Nice meido.

I don't really mind opponents of any skill levels. GGs. You might have noticed that blocking low isn't a good tactic all the time. Also, that random select was keeps trolling me, I don't know shit about playing Suwako or Remilia.

GGs, Idler. Those frozen fish matches were fun stuff. I would have played more of them, but my Aya is really bad, and I don't have any frozen fish decks made for any of the other characters, sadly. Kind of odd how I was doing a lot better with Iku, when Utsuho is my main.

Good games. Nice to see someone else having a joke deck.

Took a while to get used to the input lag but those were pretty fun matches. The comedy value in Cirno vs. Utsuho is immense.

>Kind of odd how I was doing a lot better with Iku, when Utsuho is my main.
Well, I have a lot more experience against Utsuho than Iku. I'll never get used to those sleeves.
