Dear /jp/,

I come to you with a problem and I need some advice. You see, I'm going on a trip to japan with two of my friends, and I predict that we're gonna have some hardcore karaoke action going on, but most of the japanese songs I know are restricted to animu-related. so I was wondering if you folks could help out with some song choices for me to learn and impress the girls a bit (and also hide my powerlevel), since you guys are more hip and cool (plus I doubt /mu/ would have a more extensive knowledge of japanese mainstream pop).

So help out a fellow in need, will you?

pic related, it's what I listen to 95% of the time nowadays.

oh dear i'm sorry i seem to have forgotten that /jp/ is all about touhou and nothing else oh boy you guys sure are better than me i shall take my problems elsewhere

but seriously do you really need to resort to this to make yourself feel better?

I could take it elsewhere but /jp/ does seem like the best option I have. I only came here because /mu/ doesn't seem like the type who would listen to japanese music and I'm trying to stay away from anime-related songs so /a/ is out.

One of my friends is a big AKB48 fan (of which I know nothing about), so knowing some popular songs from them could come in handy.

uhh because I believe even /jp/ would have come across "normalfag Japanese songs" at least once or twice

Make sure you pick up some oil. You'll need it.

>> No.6426777

Just sing songs in English. You're only going to make a fool of yourself if you try to sing in an unfamiliar language to native speakers.
Also, I think singing AKB48 would be worse than anisongs.

>> No.6426804

>>6426777
that's true, but why all the hate? I mean these are just regular friends you get drunk and talk shit with, even if I mess up the lyrics they aren't gonna mind, at least I tried. I mean I did "Melt" once and they were cool about it, but it did seem weird because the lyrics were from a female's POV.

Thus singing a song by the appropriate gender would probably be easier for everyone, no?

oh true. try anything by perfume. half their lyrics are in english so you'll have an easy time of it.

also, don't you play any rhythm games? there's tons of good j-pop on those. try taiko no tatsujin or ddr soundtracks.

>> No.6427220

OMG.....

motherfucking Japs love ballads like you would believe. If you wanna impress girls (like you'll get some in a box with you....) you have to sing some fuckoing ballads. really depends on the girl though most average run of the mill girls like Mr. Children, Dreams Come True, and Ayaka. Learn the karaoke staples like "choo choo train" from Exile, "Cutie Honey" from Koda Kumi, "Linda Linda" from the Blue Hearts, and "Sha Na Na Na" from Minmi

Some other stuff that's popular right now is Perfume, Kato Milliya, Koba Kuro(?), AKB48(heavy rotation is a good song), Greeen, Arashi, also a lot of Korean pop is creeping into popularity so you might want to sing the Japanese version of "Mister" by Kara

you can go to Jpop Asia to find romaji lyrics if you can't read Japanese

Eurobeat. Here's why.

1) It actually had SOME sort of significance in Japan, mostly in the 90s but nevertheless has its prominence.
2) It's in ENGLISH which will make it all the easier, no need to learn moon (unless you're singing a Domino song, in which case... don't.)
3) Eurobeat is fucking awesome.

You know, I never thought of this. I am going to japan soon and rooming with a bunch of girls who go to some all girls school, they are probably going to karaoke or something, but like OP I only know vocaloid songs nowadays. >>6427543
Sounds good, but I'm trying to stay away from K-pop for now. Thanks for the suggestion anyway

>>6427554
Good luck in your endeavours then. Remember to share your findings if you can!

>>6427615
yeah I know, but my main concern is that I won't be able to find my vocaloid songs available at karaoke places where we will visit. Hence I wish to expand my repertoire of Japanese songs beyond vocaloid, so that I won't look like a flipping mute when we actually go to one.
Unless of course there are karaoke places that actually have machines that carry/specialise in vocaloid songs, then I would be a happy (singing) camper
