Hello /jp/, what is a good textbook for beginning to learn japanese?

>> No.6372650

Also open to other methods of learning some entry level japanese.

Well you've got a book right there. They're all more or less the same at the beginning. Learn the kana, learn some grammar, learn some vocabulary, and then you too can say sentences like THIS IS A PEN

Not the best way to start: that just fuels the weeaboo angst. Find an adult college or other fine institution, and learn from an experienced, knowledgeable teacher.

Thank me in two to five years, when you pass the JLPT Level 1. (But do so in another language, as I can't even pass Level 4 (>_<)* )

Learn your kana.

Then buy "Japanese for Busy People (Kana Edition)."

Not the best way to make a post, I think I now hate you twice as much as I did when I didn't even know you existed.

Since this is a learning thread, what is a good pace?

I think I have the basic materials needed (Japanese workbook and textbook from college, Rosetta stone), but there are days where I don't feel like doing shit.

>> No.6373228

We just had a huge thread on learning japanese, Why don't you bump that thread. Because you didn't even look before posting. Bad anon. Bad.

I couldn't recommend anywhere in the United States, 'cos I don't live there. Where I live, the opportunities to learn Japanese are sparse, and the opportunities to practice Japanese are arse! Even my anime meeting are filled with pro-dubbers, much to my disgust.

Here's all the grammar you'll learn in 4 semesters of college Japanese. I also includes the colloquial grammar which classes don't cover.

Read that a bit, use heisig or kanji damage to make sense of the kanji, read some easy manga, put vocab in anki, and grind away.

I actually took 3 semesters of Japanese in college, and while it helps you get started it can really slow you down by getting stuck in its pace. Looking back I really feel like everything I learned in those 3 semesters I could have covered on my own in a few months.
